Universal Health care

Universal Health care? what u people think about it? I think it's good because it is giving to the people and the people will live longer. I mean don't get me wrong there is a down side higher taxes thats about it.It treats every one the same no matter income, job, race. But what u think?

I'd like it...I'm just not sure the US Gov't is who you want to trust with your health care...

yea the give more respect to company's that don't really help but hey i'm 15 n i got alot of ideas on this topic...my history teacher got into a debate on this took up the whole class time and then some

I saw something about this in Sicko, that movie by Moore. I think it's a good idea. France and England seem to be doing pretty well with it.

i saw the movie too my history teacher says its only for Communist government and he thinks I'm Communist for supporting this idea....i had a nose bleed that lasted for 3 weeks and i broke 4 vanes in my nose and i was waiting in the E.R. for 7 hours before getting seen

Last I checked the UK was not communist
though I have to say that living in the country you do see the problems with the system; but it is a very decent system to have -- if you can get it to work that is

yes i know i was like okay they are not like the other places that have it well Cuba is thats about all i can think of at the moment

Universal healthcare is almost impossible to implement properly. Much like Communism, it's a nice idea but the execution leaves much to be desired.

Don't ever cite Michael Moore in a serious discussion, he is the spinner of a venomous web of lies and half-truths.

Your right, however speaking in US i dont think that it would be a good idea right maybe later(US economy does not look well right now) plus by the time nation had stop fighting with each other and actually put the system into use it would work as well. I agree it is a good system in some ways, but it really depends what country is going to try and do this.

Very true but they think its a joke so i think its really worth fighting for......I mean yea i could lose but i could also win

Well you if you believe in something that much than far be it from to try to stop you go far it. (US again ) i guess it is important seeing as 1 out of every 7 people do not have health care

yes it is to believe in it i mean i think the us might like pay me off or some thing but u know its for the people that's was is important here is its for the people but thats just me and some other people at school say the same thing as me about this i can go on for almost ever about this i have a really strong idea about this

Funny ... we don't seem to be doing that bad. Sure we pay higher taxes and admittedly, the system does need an overhaul instead of more money thrown at it and the waiting list is sometimes unreasonable, but it sure beats paying thousands of dollars out of your own pocket to get treatment every human should have.

I was talking to my girlfriends father about our healthcare system, and he was informing me about the American one and what it covers - or lack thereof. I was amazed such a country like America would have such backwards medicare, and he was amazed that Canada had such a health care system in place.

It's hard to do, but when you also look at the great system France has, it definitely can be done.

however note that france and the UK are considerably smaller than the US. Size means more population and there are large differences between your differnet states. I think such a system would not be implamentable nation wide for a considerable amount of time. Best way would be to bring it in state by state

Sagat: You just listed a bunch of flaws in the program in the same breath you used to call America's system backwards. The fact that you admitted it needs an overhaul kind of takes the wind out of your sails.

By your logic, Medicare's not so bad. Sure you have to fight for any and every bill, but once you win it at least you got healed, right?

In fact, it really isn't so bad. My mother had her cancer treated on it. The only people not eligible for it are people that should have private health insurance.

My sails are doing just fine. The flaws are trivial compared to everything else it gives. Right now, it's great. With work, impeccable.

the problem would be state control of the system. Offer it free to one state and people will travel their to get into the system. Especially with people who have long lasting ilnesses, they would seek to move into the state perminantly, whilst other would seek other ways in. This would be a key time for the new system as it would be initially overburdoned and also trying to iron out its flaws. An early failure could end the program for the rest of the states entirly

I did, in fact, see Sicko, and while it did point out only one side of the argument, it did raise many excellent points.

For example, there was a story about a little girl with a massive fever. She died, because the ambulance didn't know which hospital to take her to. The insurance company that she was covered by, Kaiser, only allows emergencies to be handled at certain hospitals. Granted, where she is, there are a crap-ton of Kaiser hospitals, but apparently none were approved by insurance.

By the way, I think universal health care is the ultimate goal, but not the immediate goal. We have a lot to fix before we can go over to state-sponsored medicine, not the least of which involves keeping health insurance companies from gouging prices in the meantime.

The only people Universal Healthcare hurts is the rich, so I'm for it. It's a much better idea then the "Let Poor People Die in Debt" plan.

Sagat: The same can be said about the US Healthcare situation. It could use a few fixes, more than Canada's probably, but like I said my mother's cancer was cured with minimal financial hardship on government-sponsored healthcare so it clearly isn't all bad.

I agree lil-bro, I think everyone should recieve health care. I can't imagine being denied treatment because I didn't have coverage for it. It's a shame, and everyone blessed enough to be here on earth should be given health care.
