    Default Yousei Teikoku - Wisdom

Hey everyone! I figured I'd pick something challenging to translate, and 妖精帝国 is definitely that... I'll highlight whatever I've had the most trouble with/wasn't that sure about, but of course, I'm open to suggestions/feedback about anything else as well.

    Romaji:

Dare mo ga urayamu you na chisei mo
Dare ni mo mane no dekinai bigaku mo

    Watashi no naka ni yadotteru
    Kedakai seishin (kokoro) mitasenai

    Gensou nado motanai
    Kyoshoku nado iranai

    "SUBETE WO KONO TE NI"

Watashi wo miru ikiutsushi no kagami no naka no shoujo
Subete wo shiru sono hitomi de
    Naze watashi wo azawarau no

    truth of wisdom

Nemutteite mo samete mo atama no
Dokoka de jama suru koe ga hibiku no

    Minna ni ai wo ataemashou
    Yasashii kokoro mitashimashou

    Giai nado motanai
    Gizen nado iranai

    "SUBETE WO KOWASHITE"

Sei wo nozomu karada to shi wo nozomu seishin (kokoro) no RIZUMU
    Hageshiku yureodori nagara
    Watashi wa hikisakareteyuku

    truth of wisdom

Seishin (kokoro) no okuuzu wo minuku watashi no naka no shoujo
Subete wo shiru sono hitomi de
    Naze watashi wo warau no

Tsukiakari ni sarasarete kyoshoku ga hagare ochiteku
    Watashi wo mite
    Watashi no me dake ga
    Subete wo sukueru kara

    truth of wisdom

    English:

    Neither intelligence anyone would envy,
Nor aesthetics no one else can imitate,

    Can satisfy the noble mind,
    Which resides within me.

I won't hold on to any fantasies.
    I don't need any ostentation.

    "TAKE EVERYTHING IN HAND!"

The lifelike girl in the mirror, looking at me -[1]
Why does she make fun of me,
With her eyes that know all?

    truth of wisdom

Whether I be asleep or awake,
A voice bothering me echoes somewhere in my head:

"Let us bestow love upon all.
Let us fill some kind hearts[2]."

I won't hold on to any fake love.
    I don't need any hypocrisy.

    "DESTROY EVERYTHING!"

A rhythm of a body desiring life and a mind desiring death:
While violently dancing from side to side,
    I'm being torn apart.

    truth of wisdom

The girl inside of me, seeing through the whirlpool in the depths of my mind -
Why does she laugh at me,
With her eyes that know all?

Exposed to the moonlight, the ostentation peels off and falls.
    Look at me;
    For only my eyes,
    Can save everything!

    truth of wisdom

    Kanji:

    誰もが羨むような知性も
    誰にも真似の出来ない美学も

    私の中に宿ってる
    気高い精神満たせない

    幻想など持たない
    虚飾などいらない

    「スベテヲ コノテニ」

    私を視る生き写しの鏡の中の少女
    全てを知るその瞳で
    何故私を嘲笑うの

    truth of wisdom

    眠っていても覚めても頭の
    どこかで邪魔する声が響くの

    みんなにアイを与えましょう
    優しいココロ満たしましょう

    偽愛など持たない
    偽善などいらない

    「スベテヲ コワシテ」

    生を望む躰と死を望む精神のリズム
    激しく揺れ踊りながら
    私は引き裂かれて行く

    truth of wisdom

    精神の奥渦を見抜く私の中の少女
    全てを知るその瞳で
    何故私を笑うの

    月明かりに曝されて虚飾が剥がれ堕ちてく
    私を視て
    私の瞳だけが
    全てを救えるから

    truth of wisdom

[1] - I'm not sure if I translated 生き写し correctly.
[2] - Should I have gone with "kind souls", instead?

If you want to make kyoshoku nado iranai sound simpler, you could say, "I don't need to be pretentious."

Ikiutsushi is hard to translate because I think the lyricist intended for it to have a double meaning. The reflection looks like it's alive, and it also looks exactly like the singer. In a situation like that when my creativity meter is empty, I would leave a translator's note.

Oh, yeah, you're probably right about that.
Hmm, the only thing I can think of for a not-so-creative "solution", would be including both meanings in the translation:
"The identical, lifelike girl in the mirror..."

But I guess I'd still need to leave a footnote regardless.

    Thanks! I like that better.

    Thanks for the help!
