Simpsons movie

Quite frankly, I thought this movie sucked.

Everything this movie has with a few notable exemptions has already been done in the TV series.

The family abandoning Homer, Springfield on the brink of extinction, Bart wanting a different father figure, Lisa finding a boyfriend, it's all just been done.

It offers NOTHING ground breaking or original the South Park and Beavis and Butt-head movies did.

Heck, Simpsons in general has sucked since 2000 when they switched the central character from Bart to Homer. Or maybe it had something to do with Conan O'Brien being the writer.

Anyway, when it was centered around Bart, it had a nice controversy twist to it. Bart was a defining "American icon" of some sort. The Simpsons even though a lot of kids 10 years ago were not allowed to watch it, provided good morals in a reverse psychology twist. Bart would do something bad, but would learn his lesson the hard way.

Now it's Homer acting stupid all the frickin' time and it's implied he should learn his lessons but he doesn't and that is supposed to make it funny. But to me, I just don't buy it. Homer's character was just changed after that as well. Even though he was stupid to begin with, he still took his role as a father and a family man with seriousness. He still had a certain balance. Like, he stuck with his decision with Bart not being allowed to see the Itchy and Scratchy movie. He still had convictions.

The first, last, and only time stupid humor could ever work was with Beavis and Butt-Head. It was meant to be a satire on teenagers in general. The humor worked because of the way the characters were built. Beavis and Butt-Head are orphans and really have no formal guidance which makes them oblivious to their surroundings and to the world around them which is why the stupidity worked in my view.

I have not seen the movie yet. I feel as if I have an obligation to see it because my last name is Simpson, but really I do not care if it repeated itself, a movie is a movie and I am there to enjoy it.

Well, if you've seen the Simpsons show then everything you see in the movie won't be that surprising so they don't count as a spoilers. Rather than the movie sucks, there is NOTHING to spoil.

PS I'm not that familiar with Dane Cook. But all my buddies tell me he sucks balls. If he has anything to do with why it sucks now, no wonder.

I remember when Conan O'Brien was a writer. That's when it was good.

I came into this movie with low expecations and it sucked worse than I thought it would.

Long live Pre 2000 Simpsons. The TRUE Simpsons.

All i can say.. It's not really made for kids. I mean, just think about the movie scenes has to offer. Hmm.. But its humorous.

I saw the movie about a week ago, I thought it was going to be worse, because during all the previews I saw for it I never laughed.

But I didn't think it was tht bad, The Simpsons isn't what it use to be, so I didn't expect the movie to be super hilarious or anything.

But I've been watching the older seasons on box set lately, and I laughed as much during one good episode as I did during the whole movie, so take that as you will.

Although I agree, majority is against your opinion, or at least that is the way it seems. I IMDB'd this thing and it's already on the top 250 list and has recieved an eight out of ten rating with almost fourty five thousand ratings. This movie, unfortunately like most things related to The Simpsons, was overated and overpopularized. Main problems in my opinion and from most critiques: Plot was rushed, The movie contained random humor and shallow satire, It tries to hard to be funny, and as you said, nothing original or genuine is truly brought to the table.

Just because it's popular or not doesn't mean it will be good or successful.

Serenity is a great movie and it didn't do that well.

The 1986 Transformers movie is a classic and it didn't do that well in theaters either and it sure as hell was 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000x better than Michael Bay's Transformers. .

What? Yes it does.

The first two spider-man films were fantastic. The third sucked, yet it was still successful because both the character and the films were both Popular.

Episodes 1-3 of Star Wars? Not as good as the original trilogy, but still successful because it was a popular franchise.

X-3? Successful because the first 2 films were popular, as well as the characters.

If a film is popular it WILL do successful, regardless of how crappy it is.
Even if people hated the movie, they still payed the 9 dollars for a ticket.

Take that cloverfield film for example. That thing is being hyped to death. Even if it turns out to suck it'll still be successful.

In my personal belief, its the beginning of the end. It had a few good laughs. My personal favorite line was "Throw the god damn bomb!"
