you have to watch furi kuri, it's only 6 episodes long but it's great, also neon genesis evangelion, it gets kind of trippy and psychological near the end but it's great

My HIME, Fruits Basket, Bubblegum Crisis, and Kenshin are some of my favorites. Project A-ko was my 1st anime, and I still love it. If you like retro comedy / sci-fi you should check it out !
Outlaw Star and Samurai Pizza Cats.
Well, I've just started it but I think you may like Peacemaker.
It's 24 episodes, and I hear it mostly follows the manga which I like thus far.
And just to throw it in there, Wolf's Rain because it is made of pure awesomeness.
Though it is quite sad.
Well if you have not seen yet there is a suggestions thread stocked already. Though it really depends I'd would suggest Yu-Gi-Oh any of the 4 series are very good though the Yu-Gi-Oh GX and 5D's manga is not that great but it's not exactly horable either.
There is also Ranma 1/2, that is a very funny anime that is kinda based on romance and Kempo. Another animes you might look into is Inuyasha and Inuyasha the Final act.

I'm still not decided on this yet, which one I like better. I'm also wondering what they are going to do with the new "rebuild of evangelion" 4 part movie series to make a conclusion. I've seen 1.0 and waiting for 2.0 to come out on dvd, either way it's still a great series
well when i started getting into anime i started with
FLCL
full metal alchemist
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Paranoia Agent
Beck
cowboy bebop
Samurai Champloo
Akira, period. Get the movie. Buy it. It's worth it, but the manga's even better.
.::ANIME is DOPAMINE to me::.

The original 25 and 26 offer direct explanations of what Shinji and the others are thinking, but it makes no sense to do it like that. It's like plot analysis commentary, but as the entire episode. EoE shows how the ending actually went down and lets the viewers determine how Shinji and the others feel from their actions. I haven't seen 25 and 26 in a while, but it looks like they're overly lengthy commentaries on EoE.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Samurai 7
Gundam 00
Blood Plus
Higurashi(When they Cry)
They all start a bit slow, but they get good.
I have recently transformed into a defender of the mentally ill. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
FMA
Gurren Laggan
Black CAT
Witch Blade
Peace is a lie; there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.

Naruto (very long but has an amazing plot though it's pretty slow paced most of the time), Foolie Coolie (very funny and short!), Android Kikaider (It's a REALLY great one and rather short but still action packed.) Suzuka (It's not really action packed but has a big emphasis on relationships from a guys point of view; It's very addicting!) Gurren Laggan, BLEACH... Honestly there's way too many good ones to list.
Deathnote is probably the best anime I've ever seen though. So watching that and those other good ones to get you started was good thinking.
off topic but there's a dvd (not sure about bluray) box set of all of Akira Kurosawa's movies to mark what would have been his 100th birthday! a definate must for all anime and japanophiles, especially if you want to see the original movie that george lucas ripped off to make starwars
