What's most important in a good game？

For players who are fastidious about character modules, they don't want to have a shot at the game with rough graphics and ugly characters, even though the gameplay is really wonderful. In this sense, it is the most important to capture players' hearts at their first sight of the game.

Are you kidding me? Aesthetics including graphics and character design is only an added plus, which is definitely not the most important thing in a good game. They may seem nice at first, but that doesn't really affect the fun of the game. Even more, many games with good aesthetics are just Apple of Sodom, such as Crysis, Mass Effect, and Far Cry 2. In addition, sometimes excellent graphics are a double sided sword, coz players have to get a high hardware to run it.

Gameplay obviously comes first! It is the core structure of the game as a whole. If the main concept of the game doesn't work or isn't fun, it will totally ruin the game. Aesthetic will only get you so far if the gameplay is absolute grozit. I won’t play any boring games even I like the way they look. And I used to have a lot of fun with some games with nice gameplay and bad graphics, such as Minecraft and Runescape.

In short, gameplay is far more important than Aesthetics. If the gameplay is good, then who the hell cares about the aesthetics.

Furthmore, below's my top 4 things that I look for in a good game.
1. Gameplay (According to what I have said above).
2. Storyline (A lot of games are very popular due to their great storyline, which makes me wanna play through the game again).
3. Aesthetics (Great graphics and art style will make a game better, but which is not the main point).
4. Sound (Without doubt, it is the least important).

It pretty much depends on the genre of the game.

A fighting game, which is high populated on it's multiplayer counterpart and not things like Story mode. The game must both have depth, balance and be fun enough to be considered competitive and that way people will play it more. The same can be said about FPS and a little less for racing games. As a matter of fact, racing games can have a trash story and if they gameplay is godly is will do fine. With RPGs that's a different story, it really depends on what the game is really aiming on. When it goes to WRPGs, I think that gameplay is the main factor over story but with JRPGS, it's the other way around. Now I'm not saying that a game will be okay if the gameplay was mediocre at best but story always comes first in JRPGs. At least that's for me.

Final Fantasy XIII is very likeable because of it's story while the gameplay is fun, I think people like it a lot because of it's story more.

And I agree, graphics of the game has always been the least important following by sound. Although the other two are still essentials that should have thoughts and effort on.

Yep, i agree with you. Storyline is second for me, coz I usually play mmorpg.

I agree. Gameplay first! Then Story and Music! And then Graphics. That's how I feel. Or if it is a Final Fantasy game, then story alone is great, but their latest entries with FFXIII and FFXIII-2 have been lackluster in that department along with many other flaws. Lost Odyssey, imo, is the true FFXIII game of this generation.

In regard to graphics, technical fidelity doesn't mean squat without the artistic flare that truly makes a game look beautiful!

Story, followed by game play. I'm happy with games that don't have voices and use sprite based graphics. I don't need fancy 3D graphics to enjoy a game. Just give me a good story and at least decent enjoyable game play and I'm happy.

The acting and writing in the Jurassic Park game were silly to me, but the game was uber fun to play, especially in the dark when my gf jumped at every noise. XD

To me, graphics are instant appeal, whereas the other elements are the lasting appeal. Case in point, people that were attracted to Battlefield 3 because of the graphics Frostbite 2 brought, and then left because the gameplay didn't appeal to them.

If it comes to RPG's , then i kinda disagree. A RPG can have no story whatsoever and still be good. Its all about the immersion (which comes from good sound , voice acting , gameplay , dialogs...)

For example , Mount and Blade has absolutely no story , and it still is my favorite RPG...

A story really adds to a game like with Final Fantasy X, etc. But yeah, a story isn't needed to make an RPG great, and Resonance of Fate is a good example of just that as well. Resonance of Fate barely had any story to it and it still rocked my socks off.

True, End of Eternity is one of the exceptions. But that's because Tro-ace are beasts.

Well, in my opinion, it is a great game. Graphics are not all that important aisde from maybe art style, but gameplay and great music is the heart of all great games, imo.

Great to you maybe. But since I have yet to see it in action (or even less, read reviews from people like X-Play), I can't really judge it yet.

Also , since we are on the subject of RPG'S, am i the only one that hate most of the storilines of them? Its always about ancient evils awakening , and for some reason the player is always the chosen one... Why cant i just be a regular chum , and climb my way to the top?

You should definitely check out Fortune Summoners. They have a PC demo on Steam and it will run on virtually any PC. It was surprisingly one of the best JRPGs this generation of consoles that I've experienced thus far.

I actually place high value on graphics, not to downplay or say the others are unimportant but there's a reason why people are drawn to the ads and there has been an increase/improvement on technology thus far.
