Yes, they are. Try looking up Miss Kobayaki's Dragonmaid OVA or Queen's Blade.
Anime is a lot like sex. Done right it's a beautiful act of creation that brings a little more light into the world. If it's sick and wrong... it's even better.

@PictureGuy OVA's are usually straight to DVD/Bluray releases and are usually made as a bonus incentive when a series goes to bluray to encourage people to buy it.
There are also ONA's, which are basically internet releases, like Sex and Violence with Machspeed.
Anyway yeah they're still a thing. One of my favorites is probably the Attack on Titan OVA called The Birth of Levi. It's actually really good to the point of being on par with the main series.
Hellsing Ultimate was also a really good one, to the point of being a lot better than the actual anime.

Tenchi OVA is still the best series in the lot.

I just watched a sweet little OVA titled If I See You in my Dreams. It's a comic romance in three parts. Not exactly a classic, but certainly an anime you can relax and enjoy watching.
