Godzilla (2014)

Anyone else looking forward to the new Godzilla movie coming out this May? Any big G fans on this board? What do you think of it?

I'm somewhat of a fan of Godzilla movies. Haven't seen all of them, but they're good fun. Now, what I like about this new Godzilla film is that it shares that dark, end of the world type of theme like the original 1954 version had. And another plus is that this incarnation of Godzilla is closer to the Japanese version, than the 1998 version was. Too bad the big G was hidden throughout most of the trailer, since it shows more of the destruction he causes above all else. Sort of a Jaws approach there. It looks good, but you know how Hollywood is. Aside from the Hobbit and (maybe) 47 Ronin, this is the only thing I want to see. Everything else has just been a crap fest.

Well the 1998 version wasn't too bad, they just tried way too hard at certain things. Still, it'd be nice for an American version of a Godzilla movie to have Godzilla attack Tokyo for once. NYC's nice and it deserves it's destruction well, but come on. It's a Japanese monster, let it attack Japan. I do think that they're trying to recapture the feeling and epicness of the original Godzilla movies in Black and White though.

The people watching this movie are not going to care that much about Tokyo or its denizens. It's got to be a white woman holding a child afraid of being stomped on by Gojira.

But as long as we're making requests, my request is that there be no love interest or romantic relationships in this movie. Exception: Gojira is the love interest.

I suppose the 1998 version is a decent popcorn flick. I think most people who nitpicked at it are the people who are staunch Toho fans of the original Godzilla. So the G 98 people wanted to try something new. The big G's fan base revolves a lot around his original look. I can see why fans would be upset. Good animatronics and people in suits click more for me than cgi anyways. Oh well, in Godzilla Final Wars, the Japanese showed how they really feel about America's knock-off, Zilla. I must say, that was enjoyable for like a 10 second fight.

That would be ideal, so we can focus more on the kaiju world carnage!

I saw this trailer like.... 5 months ago when it was leaked and they tried to remove it from like every website in the world. Meh.

Yea, if the G 98 Godzilla had been named something else, it would've been awesome. Even calling it "Zilla" didn't help. It did fit Godzilla well though, just not the iconic image we've known for years. Then again I wonder if any of those die hard fans would complain about Godzilla being black or green in the new movie. Being as that's a tough call because originally the monster was black (or a dark grey to show up better on the film) during the days of black-and-white movies, but when color film production came they changed it to green.

I was somehow expecting another remake of Gojira sometime now. Luckily, it's done by WB, so it'll be less likely to suck, but I wouldn't go home bragging about it yet.

I've always loved Godzilla, my favorite being Gojira which came out in the 40's I believe, along with the countless Japanese subtitled movies, which taught me to read LOL. SOme of the best ones from my childhood were Godzilla vs Mothra, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. I wasn't so fond of the one that came out in 2000 called Godzilla 2000 although I enjoyed the more recent release, I forgot what it was called though. I'll probably see the new Godzilla, I just hope it's as interesting as the vintage ones. Gojira was a masterpiece and the countless colored Japanese releases were no exception.

That sounds like a King Kong sort of thing.

No, what they should do is have a soldier who has been fighting this monster grow a deep respect for it's ability to outwit the military and destroy a ton of stuff. At some point the soldier watching the news and sees Al Sharpton talking about how Gojira disproportionally attacks the black community, at which point he realizes he doesn't really care what happens to America anymore and joins forces with the lizard.

I would love too see Godzilla and Cloverfield combine. Clover was a unique monster and since the one you see is in theory just a baby at (60 meters tall) an adult might be able to give (140 meter) new Godzilla a fight. His atomic breath would be pretty serious but then again Baby Clover survived alot of crap.

Since Legendary pictures only has the rights to the Godzilla character, not any other Toho monsters.
