but drama could be anything
Don't most anime contain drama in some form?
Nonon Jakuzure - Best Kill la Kill baePretty damn great! #spoke2soonOta "The Cutest Otaku" 2016 - Lol, how's your account doing lately? Oh wait.
like Yoko said ALL anime contain drama either you like it or not ==
There can't be conflict without drama. So... if you're watching anything with any sort of plot, then there's gonna be some drama in it. O_o
Drama-
a composition in verse or prose intended to portray life or character or to tell a story usually involving conflicts and emotions through action and dialogue and typically designed for theatrical performance
Conflict-
competitive or opposing action of incompatibles : antagonistic state or action (as of divergent ideas, interests, or persons)
Yup, Yoko hit it. All anime has conflict (so does all forms of media). That sword fight? That's a conflict. That fight also tells a story through emotions. Hence it's a drama. An opposing conversation of differing views? That's drama. What was that line that that one bard wrote? Oh yeah, "All the world's a stage." You can't escape drama. It's in everything. Life, books, music, TV, movies, etc. I suggest you get used to it.

Yup even in the wackiest of anime you'll find it
Even in the great Excel Saga it exists...won't spoil anything but yes it's there too
Now if OP is talking about anime that is MOSTLY drama versus anime that is mostly comedy then yes they do exist. May I ask why the diversion from drama? You mentioned it dries out (not sure what that means)
I personally love a good drama. XXXHolic is great. Angel Beats goes from comedy to drama real fast as it nears the end
I guess yeah it all comes back to there is drama in all
Nope, comedy is drama through and through.

Semantics much? I think you all know exactly what the OP is talking about.
Not really. If you've studied any kind of theater or literature then you'll know that the genre label as a whole isn't a good one to have. Drama is emotion, reactions, highs, lows, etc. All these things are present everywhere in many different forms. Labeling something serious like Captain Harlock as a drama is doing an injustice to other shows that are out there.
I'm not disagreeing with you about what drama means. I'm just saying the last time I walked into a movie store (when they existed) there wasn't a sign over the entire store that said "Drama" with sub-categories beneath it. I'm willing to bet that a large majority of people don't hear the word drama and think of its literal meaning.
^Pretty much that. And I just like arguing semantics. Still annoys me but I'm not going to actually get up in arms about it.
You are a cake.
Response
I think people here wish all anime was drama, but not really :P
Not the sobby pillow type , that's made for girls, girls try to make men into wuss. Have you seen how big the eyes are on Clannad characters, its like an alien from space.
But those are well known....somehow. They have tried to merge that into action aswell. Old ones didn't have that.
Basically the old ones are not remembered, the sobby ones just gets the attention because of popularity poll.
Here's something to cheer you up.
Just joking. Here
Now that is chill
