Mutual intelligibility makes sense in light of the proximity of those countries, but sometimes it’s surprising to learn how little proximity matters (like Georgians in the Caucasus and the Russian language). he Scandinavians and Anglo-Saxons might have understood each other to a substantial degree. No one really knows for sure to what extent the two languages were inter-intelligible, but I do think it’s interesting.
