2009 ? worst year ever ?

I know this ain't helping by starting a thread like this , but I dunno .

The world as we know is really screwed up currently . Recession , war in Iraq , swine flu , deaths etc.

Is this a punishment or a consequence ?
I may be wrong , about my opinion . But what can we actually do about it ?

I just want opinions , and other relevant stuff please for this thread .

Dunno. The war in Iraq isn't really a 2009-specific event, and recessions come and go (this one can't hold a candle to the one in the '30s).

I mean, there's been A LOT of years to choose from. We haven't even really got a major natural disaster in 2009, or a plague outbreak, or a world war.

I've always thought 1939-1945 was really bad.
Or 1929-1937.
Or the entirety of the Dark Ages.

Relatively, we're doing pretty goddamn amazing. But one minor setback, and our modern spoiled society is up-in-arms.

It's been the worst for me personally. But judging on how you would rank years as being the worst is just an opinion.

-Natural Disasters only affect a certain area of people
-Deaths only affect a certain area of people
-Recession.. affects the middle and lower class people

-Until something affects the WORLD.. It's not an entirely bad year. :]
People are living it up as we speak having the best years of their lives. And some are just drowning in their misery. It just depends on your current situation at hand.

I mean, we're still not out of Iraq, and it's been dull.

To a good man I know with a baby born prematurely and who's been tied to hospitals all year, 2009 has been terrible. To a great friend of mine who got married to the love of her life, 2009 has been an excellent year. For me one place of employment went out of business, but I'm fortunate enough to have found another job relatively quickly given the current economy of my state. For me, 2009 wasn't so bad.

Afghanis in Helmland Province seeing a "surge" of both extremist Taliban and US Marines might not like 2009 very much. Argentinians are currently living in a collapsed economy that shows no sign of turning for the better any time soon, so 2009 might not rate so well for them either. China is facing pretty intense Muslim terrorism along their Southwest border but is seeing a huge surge in national income since adopting a quasi-Western financial system; they might think 2009 had some hitches, but is going along pretty well all things considered.

There are a lot of perspectives from which to judge a time frame.

The "government" of Afghanistan is just one big, decentralized mess, with a sitting president who does nothing but advocate criminal leaders such as Jalaluddin Haqqani.

Life sucks in more than just Helmand province, but Kapisa, Konar, and everywhere else radical factions are present throughout the Taliban's (for ex.) religious, economic, political, and physical reach.

Which basically encompasses the entirety of Afghanistan. (go figure)

For me personally, 2009 has been a good year. A lot of things have happened in my life, allowing me to push forward to the next step. [i.e real life].

However, financially, it has not been very good for me. It stands to get worse, or maybe in 2010. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my job again, other than the obvious choice of "find a new one" which is getting harder by the day. If I was unable to find work, I'd eventually be financially destroyed and homeless...so I'd consider military service if I was unable to find other employment. It could be worse though. My two friends in CA are out of jobs this month, with no new prospects in sight so far. I was not shot in Ft. Hood as I attempted to do my duty, by a piece of human garbage that could not do his. I live in the USA, rather than a nation where food and water are uncertain, and violence is common.

I hope that 2010 is better - for everyone.

Swine flu is a joke. Recessions are known to happen in any type of economy. It is like a cold for the economy and the war is war. Not like it is anything new. Cheer up buddy, eat your wheaties.

What? worst year ever? Well... I guess political... not really. Health-wise... not so great.
But 2009 isn't over yet. There's the rest of November and then December. Then we can deem it as not the best year.

There's widespread confusion about why it is more deadly. It isn't that it's particularly more dangerous for the individual who contracts it, but that it's much more infectious than other influenza strains. So if a certain percentage of people die from it, and it infects 20 times more people, 20 times more people are going to die. But people interpret this as though if they are infected, they are 20 times more likely to die. Which is wrong.

I've read that 90% of the flue cases in Texas have been the Swine Flu. I'm not overly concerned about getting it, but I will stay home from work. I don't get sick often, so if I get it, it'll either be over in 24 hours or it'll floor me. If I can't take enough time off to recover, I guess I could go to work wearing one of those masks like they wear in Japan...I don't really deal with people anyway.

Here I thought the Cybermen killed the dinosaurs. But in the end, in doing so, they also killed off the most annoying Doctor Who companion ever (seriously, people whining about Catherine Tate should just shut up. That guy was SO UNBEFRICKINGLIEVABLY ANNOYING!), so I don't have a problem with that.
