Proof Jesus Didn't Exist?

Apparently an American Biblical Scholar named Joseph Atwill during his research has found proof against Jesus's existence and plans to share it with the world on 19th of October in London.

Well considering that the supposed historical sources(about 18 or something that the church claims as such) which prove that a person with the characteristics of Jesus existed are not clear about his existence to begin with, there is not a single serious historian of the time and area who had written anything about such person.

It is about time for the lies to be exposed actually :P

I do not believe in religion nor do I believe in Jesus Christ. Plus, there really isn't any real proof about him that shows that he once existed in this world, just religious people that pray on the bible with false hope.

I personally do not believe in Jesus Christ, and like Hoshirabu said, it is about time for the lies to be exposed.

Actually while most of the Jesus stories are in fact based on older and BETTER religions, there is some evidence that a guy named joshua existed int he area he was supposed to.

i like this guy. although being atheist this doesn't really affect me much.

this guy better be prepared for the onslaught of zealots that are about to berate him. there will be a lot of christians (practicing ones) that will attack atwill's credibility and never accept his findings. if his findings prove true, Christianity will have no basis for its belief structure, but that won't stop people from damning atwill as a demonic heathen, or even the antichrist.

this revelation will strengthen practicing Christian's faith (completely illogical but that's what happens when Christians feel threatened) and turn off non-practicing Christians from religion altogether.

Some people believe in ghosts.. And among the endless amount of documentations, some of it may be true. If it's true, the validity of a world beyond is possible. In that sense, a higher being could exist.
Personally, I believe in God but don't demean people that think I am an idiot or zealot for believing. That will just put me down on the same level as someone that likes to insult others.
I would sit down with Mr. Atwill and listen to him, but I will simply not agree with him, state what I think politely, and we will be on our merry way.

There's is more than one way to express one's existence. Unicorns exist because we imagine them. Proving Jesus didn't exist physically won't matter much to people who are already believing something they don't even see.

I personally am not religious anyways, really. I do not believe in Jesus in the first place. I was raised Mormon due to where I live and have since left the church. Therefore none of this is very surprising, nor does it really even affect me. And if someone is already a big believer in the whole Christianity thing, I doubt it's going to sway them. That's what faith is, and if they truly have it, this won't make a dent in it.

While I totally agree with both statements, the point of proving it is not to make religious people to stop believing (that as you both say will never happen) what such proof though can do is to give some break to those of us who are bombed everyday with religious stuff even when we are atheists by choice.

In my own country and culture being christian is a default, we are baptized when we still s**t our pants (so we have no saying in the process) and christianity is a school course ... the school book condemns atheism openly, and because in papers we are christians we can not resign from the course.
Not that it will make a lot of difference if the proof is out but at least some of the kids will have a fact to contradict.

Or simply to have a strong fact to tell those preaching, about "REAL" religion, off

There exists a broader problem you need to address before looking into this.

What criteria do you use to say someone was Jesus. Would any carpenter's son that was crucified in the general area in his 30s qualify as being Jesus? What if there was more than one? Which properties must such a Jesus-candidate satisfy in order to be considered Jesus?

I couldn't be anymore this. Minus I don't have to stones to send this to my parents. My dad probably wouldn't care, but my mom would probably attempt some christian intervention with me.
