I think a lot of Christian "values" are being considered immoral these days is because we're stepping away from the true teachings of Jesus. To be a truly confessed Christian these days is to believe whatever the pulpit says despite their ideology being framed by a rich politician who wants his "values" to be preached. EDIT: the politician who pays for his ideology to be preached.
To be honest, though, I'm not Christian and I pray for Jesus to come back. I might have to be tortured by a few locusts first - but I really wanna see the dude.
And Samhain is a Holy Day for me. More than just Dias de los Muertes(even though I do have an offrenda). As a Wiccan I celebrate eight Sabbats and thirteen Esbats throughout the year.
We start with Samhain(which is the Wiccan New Year), Yule(Winter Solstice), Imbolc, Ostara, Beltaine, Litha, Lammas/Lughnasaughd, Mabon, and back to Samhain. The thirteen Esbats are the thirteen full moons we have throughout the year.
Today also happens to be my mother's birthday, which makes it kind of special.
Samhain is actually the third and last Harvest of the year(started by Lammas, and then Mabon) and is well known for being the part of the year where we commemorate our loved ones who have passed on. This is where "the veil is thinnest".
The story is that the God has died and his beloved wife, the Goddess, goes to the Underworld to see him.
It's also similar to the story of Christ's crucifixion/sacrifice since he goes through Hades/the Underworld to purify the way into Heaven where his follows will go through the path he made before he is Resurrected and makes his Ascension.
Also Orpheus, Odin being hung on the world tree, Mithras, Eostre, and many others.
The Christians ripped off everyone... oops. Jesus is coming. Quick, hide he eggs!
Anime is a lot like sex. Done right it's a beautiful act of creation that brings a little more light into the world. If it's sick and wrong... it's even better.

Well, there is no World Series tonight. But I'm not giving out candy anyway. Kids don't Trick or Treat anymore, at least not in the townhouse complex I live in. Granted it is a dangerous world out there, with all kinds of sickos. But everyone here knows each other. I guess Trick or Treating is just not the thing anymore.
One of these Holloweens, I'm going to drive up to Baltimore's Westminster Church. That's were Edgar Allen Poe is buried. Each year they have a program where Poe's works are read. Then they have a tour of the catacombs beneath the church. I may skip that part. But I won't be able to make it up there -- again.
I guess I will have to just settle for watching the next two episodes of Castlevania's second season.

Happy October, everyone. Halloween 2019 is a few weeks away and I'm psyched for it!!

Right. Until someone smashes a rotten pumpkin on your doorstep.

I'm wary of Halloween outings in a place like, say, NYC's West Village, though. People run the risk of getting stabbed at those.
j/k j/k?

I'm actually going to be at an anime convention on the 18th and 19th...

My home still decorates for Halloween, but over the last few years we've had to retire a few that were getting weathered and harder to fix. My mom made a 9ft paper mache/PVC pipe Jack Skellington that stayed with us for over 20 years. That got retired just about 2 years ago along with the Sally she made as well. We still have an electric chair and animatronic victim. We're making new tombstones this year to replace the warped wooden ones that finally gave out last year.
I obviously don't trick or treat anymore, but I'll go out and buy myself a stash of my own candy. Although, my whole family does have a yearly costume party/card game the weekend before Oct31. No, its not poker; it's Books and Runs if anyone is familiar with the game. I'm dressing up as a Necromancer with a skull coat, cowl, skull mask, and warlock staff. I did my best to make sure it doesn't look like a grim reaper instead. It should turn out looking good.. I've spent close to $100 on everything. Wasn't my intention to, but the coat and staff that I didn't want to make a compromise on ran me over $60. Hopefully I'll make use of them again the following years.
Everyone, be safe out there.
