I realise those figures are old news, but what I meant was "What makes you think those figures were accurate at the time of reporting?". Still, I didn't put the question like that, so fair enough.
As for health officials and heath experts, I have yet to see a single example of concrete evidence that justifies the global lockdown we are in. Also, it should be noted that many qualified health experts have differing conclusions as to the nature of this virus, and none have been able to identify it in isolation, which I must say, is very telling. I already posted the views of 2 qualified health experts in my most recent thread. One believes that the virus exists (Chris Busby); the other doesn't (Andrew Kaufman), and the one that doesn't has at least provided visual evidence to back up his claims. I understand that you'd rather accept the views of health experts as opposed to conspiracy theorists; but surely you cannot simply believe all health experts. Do you have a particular health expert (or group thereof) from which your beliefs are derived? If so I'd be more than happy to look them up.

Now I'm hearing the virus came from an animal, that it didn't come from a lab in Wuhan, China. Have any of you read the same?
I'm so tired of this worldwide lock-down. It's for safety of health, but complete boredom annoys me like a motherf*****.

I am not a sheep. I hear what the experts say, then I look and I see what is going on. If this virus is not real, how do you explain all those deaths, which are probably an under count. I guess New York does not exist either. And neither does Italy since they were hit hard.
You don't like the shutdown? Go to Florida or Georgia or one of those southern states who are opening up for business. They have a lot to share with you -- including the coronavirus.
But I do have to admit it takes a certain level of intellect to accept any conspiracy theory put forward by a proven crackpot.

I agree to disagree. I think I did note somewhere that people are dying - to counter your point. And I'm fine in NYC, thank you. Come visit.

I'm still waiting on the incarceration and criminal prosecution of Anthony Fauci for having ordered an incorrect approach at curing viruses since HIV(late 80's) to the present, COVID19 crisis. He and Bill Gates have a debt to humanity to pay for a long time, just to name a few.
^ Not for Donald Trump who ignored the crises for two and a half months, and then has told us nothing but lies and fake news? At least Fauci speaks the truth.

I learned people are much more rude and disrespectful during a pandemic. I forgive them.

Rude and stupid. Have you noticed how many people stopped practicing social distancing? Have you noticed how many don't know how to wear a simple face mask? What good is a face mask when you don't cover your nose? No wonder the numbers are getting worse.
It will be hell this fall.

So yeah, in my country it's got to the point where the wearing of face masks (or "face coverings" as they're now calling it) is now mandatory if you want to use public transport and visit surgeries, hospitals and the like. My initial reaction was: "Talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted! But okay - no big deal.". And then it hit me: Why would it stop there? Where's the logical endpoint? Surely if they gave a damn about this virus then the wearing of face masks wouldn't be restricted to these services. So I made some predictions, and low and behold, just about every government-funded service has enforced these guidelines, required by law or not. Why I'm I surprised at this point?
Look, this isn't about making excuses to not wear a face mask in public; it's about a government that puts out guidelines that are so inconsistent and volatile that one is compelled to wear a face mask in public at all times, or otherwise take their chances with an ever-changing minefield of new measures. Last time I checked, it was required by law to wear a face mask, but only while boarding public transport; then it was required by law to wear a face mask in surgeries and hospitals; and now it's more or less required in every state-funded service, including state schools, social services and other specialised departments - well the latter is technically more discretionary than mandatory, but regardless, I don't like the idea of where this seems to be going. Of course, with respect to good timing, such measures of protection against a potentially lethal virus in places where it's easily transmitted is common sense. However, what's interesting is that apparently, our government didn't think to proactively notify the pubic of these post-lockdown rules in one single announcement. It's almost as if our government didn't want to dish out all the rules in one go for fear of a public backlash, so sneakily put the frog in the water pot and gradually upped the temperature; thus the oblivious frog doesn't react and stays in the pot to be eventually boiled. Frankly, I feel cheated.
It's also interesting that these latest guidelines were not enforced at the start of the lockdown, and that while the lockdown was in place, flights were still being allowed into the country, not to mention illegal migrants from France. I'm sorry, but I for one can hardly blame people for flouting the lockdown rules when our own government is blatantly doing the same - a classic example of "Do as I say, not as I do", don't you think? It's clear to me now that our government, or rather, that which it answers to is trying to have their cake and eat it by striving to keep both the economy afloat and sustain the fear-driven, Coronavirus narrative; but unfortunately for them, the two entities conflict each other. To say this lockdown has been an absolute joke would be the understatement of the year. It's ironic that we have some the most draconian lockdown measures in the world, and yet somehow, have managed to rank 2nd in the world for highest number of Coronavirus deaths. Of course, the United States takes the podium here, because apparently, the US has to be the best at every thing irrespective of what it is. But wait, there's more! Because while it's easy to criticise the likes of Donald Trump and hold him responsible for that historical achievement, it should be noted that the percentage of deaths within the US population is actually lower than that in my country (not that this is a competition or anything); so statistically the Trump administration is managing this crisis better than our government. Wow! just wow. How proud one must feel to be part of a nation in which the government's management of this crisis is bettered, or should I say, "trumped" by an administration spearheaded by a man who's disliked by around 50% of North Americans and has been compared to Hitler.

The incompetency of your government is no excuse for you not to protect yourself and others. The face mask prevents you from spreading the virus if you are carrying it. And often you won't know if you are carrying it without a test, because it could take days for symptoms to manifest.
The death rate so far in the US is almost 5.5%. For the world as a whole, it is a slight bit more. The percentage could very well go up, especially here in the US with Trump telling everyone the crises is over.
I say to hell with Trump. Wear your mask and wear it correctly. Cover your mouth and your nose. Limit your trips away from your home. Practice social distancing. Go to restaurants for pick up only. We aren't even half way home yet.

Ok, so please don't use AF to spread your unhinged conspiracy theories about how telling people to wear protective masks is a first step to some sort of Orwellian future. Your next such post will just be deleted.

And just where in my post did I ever imply that I was not protecting myself or others? I simply stated that I can't blame others for flouting the lockdown rules when our government is doing the same, that's all. Since the people in my country have been instructed to rely on the government for guidance, the onus is on the government to lead by example; otherwise the government is basically contradicting its own advice and downplaying the threat of COVID-19. But you're right to say that our government is incompetent; I couldn't agree with you more; however it's breaking of the rules that it enforced on the public is not an act of of incompetence, but an act of subservience. Our government is breaking the rules in order to fulfil the bottom line of keeping the economy afloat; because, if it doesn't, it will have borrow more and more money from the bank, which of course, taxpayers will be forced to pay back in the form of debt for many years to come. Also it will have to answer to the corporations from which it draws revenue not to mention the many employees who work for them. Surely this is a bad move unless the government is deliberately to trying to thwart its chances of winning the next election. Like I said before, the government wants to have its cake and eat it, but finds itself in an impossible position where it cannot allow the economy to recede further, yet cannot restore it without underplaying the threat of COVID-19. The situation is much the same for Donald Trump, who you seem to think is calling the shots, when really it's the major corporations and lobbyists to which he and his administration answers. As I recall, Trump went so far as to say that he'd not allow a second lockdown in the US; very telling I must say.
As for the so-called US "death rate" that you quoted; that statistic is meaningless since the tests, depending on which medical expert you agree with, are unreliable as they cannot distinguish between different viruses and have an 80% failure rate. Chances are if you've contracted any virus in your body and get tested, it will generate a false positive and you'll be flagged as a COVID-19 patient. Did you know that the doctors in my country are being instructed to record every virus-related patient death as a COVID-19 death in spite of their age or whether they have underlying health complications or not? Did you know that our health service has been monetarily incentivised to flag patients this way or risk have their funds cut? Did you know that patients in my country are dying not necessarily from COVID-19, but from lung damage caused by the closed ventilators they're being been put on?
And for the record I actually do give a damn about public health. In fact from the start of the lockdown I was way ahead of the government's advice. I wore a face mask before it was even required by law and in spite of there being very little evidence to justify the lockdown. I did this in spite of my GP who exempted me from wearing a face mask since I have a medical condition that causes breathing difficulties. And even though I didn't need to, I chose to voluntarily self-isolate for at least 14 days, during which time I lost a considerable amount of weight due to lack of access to food, and I was already underweight to begin with. I effectively tested all the imposed guidelines to date, only to find that my government was deliberately allowing flights into the country while keeping the entire population under effective house arrest. And don't get me started on the 3 to 6 feet distancing rule enforced around the world. Meaningless when you consider that a cough or sneeze can travel as much as 24 feet. Any mainstream medical expert will tell you this; so why is this distance not enforced instead? I'll tell you; because it'd result in a total collapse of society that's why. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The lockdown is a joke!
Using AF to spread conspiracy theories was not my intention, but out of respect for your advice I've modified my post to remove my "unhinged conspiracy theories" to the best of my perception. As a free-speech absolutist, I'm not happy about this, but never mind; there are more important things at stake than my feelings. Just as I am respecting the lockdown rules imposed by my government, I will respect he rules here too. From here I'm going to assume that AF does not allow the posting of any conspiracy theories not just the one you referenced, even if I did forewarn members of this with a disclaimer. Also I will avoid making any references to COVID-19 on AF from now on as it's clearly a sensitive topic, and there are more appropriate places on the Internet to discuss this matter. Besides, since I intend to officially leave AF by October I'd like to end things on a good note.

Frustration. We have to think about 2021 for a vaccine?!
My Wi-Fi, it's gone out . . .
yeah, vaccines usually take a lot of time to develop. From what I know, it would take even longer if there hadn't been a similar coronavirus that has been investigated since the MERS virus outbreak. It might go faster since there might be a vaccine using only the hull or some surface proteins or even just some genetic material of the virus (otherwise you would have to cultivate the virus which takes longer). But generally speaking it can take a decade to produce a vaccine that is relatively safe to use for the public.
Since this is a pandemic, many of the steps are either shortened or skipped completely which can lead to unwanted long-term side effects. But they might in the end have to choose between people dying due to lung failure in the hospitals and dying because of side effects with a not sufficiently tested vaccine.
Oh right, forgot to add that if you brought out a vaccine that kills a lot of people, with the increase of people who believe that vaccines are generally harmful, it might lead to more people generally not vaccinating in the future.
I doubt a vaccine for everyone will be finished by next year though. They might do extensive testing on human subjects by that time and maybe end of that year a vaccine will be available to the public, but it is quite unknown so far.

// remember the future.
....Wow. Okay.
So first and foremost, just about every government seems to have had some level of incompetency during this entire pandemic.
I still fail to understand how people are denying that this virus exists? How much more proof do you need?
Why would the government force a lockdown that is killing small and/or struggling businesses and risks the country going into a recession? How does this actually work out well for them? Does it benefit them to have so many people out of work and relying on taxpayer money and dipping into their superannuation funds to survive?
So it's not the black plague. Does that mean that we should take this... a virus... a disease which mutates, any less seriously? Well if you think about it, had this virus come about several hundred years ago, I'm sure that the results would have been far more dire.
The world would be on a much clearer path to recovery already had people respected social distancing, self-isolation, and worn protective masks.
One of the states in my country have had an absolute outbreak in the last two weeks because people were sneaking out of quarantine and not obeying the rules. We were beginning to make a recovery before that, and it's just set everything off again. Selfish people doing selfish things!
The masks aren't only to protect you. They're also to protect people from contracting an illness if you yourself are sick.
We protect the ill and infirm because they are most susceptible to succumbing to the virus.
We protect essential workers, because without them able to attend their work, businesses slow and suffer, and therefore everyone suffers. Not to mention if an essential worker becomes ill, how many people do they come into contact with before they realise?
As for Trump... Well, I think he damages his own case more than anyone else could. It's honestly disconcerting that the leader of a nation is so blatant in his disregard for this issue. When half the country is following his example, he should do what he was voted in to do and damn well lead and protect!

^ A lot of people listen to Trump and believe his lies. OK, so maybe they are no more than a 25-30 per cent minority, but they do plenty of harm exposing themselves and then others.
And when you wear those masks, wear them correctly. Cover the mouth and the nose both. Just covering the mouth does not work. Neither does wearing the mask under your chin, people! Really? How hard can it be to wear a mask correctly?

Last night, I came across an Associated Press article which quotes a White House source as saying the Russians are spreading disinformation in the US about the coronavirus.
I bet they didn't tell Trump. He hates hearing anything negative about his friend Putin. And if they did tell Trump, don't expect any reaction.
