For me personally, it was the best thing that could ever happen. I have always been extremely introverted, quiet and insecure. It's an every day struggle to become more outgoing and it's taken me years to be where I am today. I was never popular in school with the boys or had that many friends, so relationships were unfamiliar to me. Toward the end of 2007, my best friend and I revealed our New Year resolutions to each other. One of mine were to meet someone. A couple of days after the new year, I registered at an online website and instantly received two or three messages. Most guys kept wanting to gain access to my private photo album, but I refused because looks aren't the only important thing. One guy seemed more shallow that way in his writing, so I wasn't interested in him very much.
The membership was a free trial for three days, and when my time was abou to end I was sort of panicking because the one I liked would be gone. I managed to upload my email address as my profile picture a couple of times before it was removed by the website. Somehow it worked out because he added me to his friends list on MSN. We chatted on a daily basis for about a month before we decided to meet in real life. He came up to my city and even brought me flowers. I thought that was very sweet. We had dinner together at a Chinese restaurant and watched two films at the cinema. We have been together since that day, got engaged six months later and then been married for four years now. Like any other couple, we have our ups and downs, but I know in my heart that he's the one for me and I don't know what I would do without him in my life.

I used to have them when I was 12/13. Then I moved on to real life boyfriends. Then I moved on to older men. Now I moved on to being asexual.
I did it a couple of times. It's worth a shot because you often end up meeting people you never would have known about otherwise. Sadly it hasn't worked for me but there are pros to it just as there is to dating people in person.
It sucks though because my last online relationship we broke up because we felt weird talking to our friends about dating someone online, but just 2 years later it seems everyone is doing it that way. My ex-boss got married to some dude she met online and one of my friends has been engaged with a guy she met years ago online.
Though always make sure to be careful. And be suspicious of anyone that refused to cam chat with you
