Fullmetal Alchemist (Anime)

All I know of this anime, having watched the Adult Swim block YEARS ago, is that it has a crazy introduction.

I know Edward, the Fullmetal Alchemist, and his brother, who's covered in metal with a seal after Edward's kind act of trying to save him after a battle. That's 'bout it.

What is it about, really?

I don't want to spoil it. You should just watch it. It's really good. There's both Full Metal Alchemist (the first series made) and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (the second series made). They're both good, but for authenticy sake I recommend Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It's closer to the original manga source. Where as the original series they made strays differently near the end.

The basic plot of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood according to Google:
"Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric search for the Philsopher's Stone, hoping to restore their bodies, which were lost when they attempted to use their alchemy skills to resurrect their deceased mother. Edward, who lost only limbs, joins the State Military, which gives him the freedom to continue the search as he tries to restore his brother, whose soul is tethered to earth by a suit of armor. However, Edward and Alphonse are not the only ones seeking the powerful stone. And as they search, they learn of a plot to transmute the entire country for reasons they cannot comprehend."

And its very, very good. This series had me quite literally on the edge of my seat the WHOLE way through...The story telling is phenomenal, the characters are relatable and you can't help but love them all...the good, the bad, and the ugly...Its got action, comedy, romance, drama, mystery--and it's super deep too. Makes you *think*. It's just an outstanding series--and if you haven't seen it--you need to.

I do agree that brotherhood is 'better', but there are things about the first series that are great, that they kind of skipped over in brotherhood.
