RE: spam ads and bots on forums

since i been on AF i've noticed a few recurring ad spammers and bots and the like, and it raised a question in my mind;

Is this kind of marketing not counter-productive?

When you see a bunch of video torrent links in the art forum, or someone its trying to sell you their loops or card game or costumes or carpet cleaning services in vancouver, does this not immediatley raise the "REJECT" response in your consciousness?

By using bots, and fake user accounts on forums to advertise your commercial product, are you not harming its rep, and therefore effecting your sales negativeley?

just thinking like, but i dont know. what do you lot think?

Spam is spam, it exists solely for the purpose of being spam... I don't count bots and user ads as in the same category.

I can hear the user's now... "It doesn't hurt to... [Enter Ad Here]", and that's true, it won't hurt them in the long run. If they're desperate enough to join this forum simply to advertise, then, seriously, what do they have to lose?

The sales must be going fairly poorly if they need to advertise, so how worse can it get?

I think it's just so they get traffic hits via searchbots cacheing the stupid post spam links.

Not like anybody ever clicks them. If anything they serve as a mild form of legally-accepted trollbait.

Whenever I see "spam", I automatically translate it into "scam". Seriously, 99.99% of spam is just advertising fake goods to get your money OR involve planting a nice virus onto your computer. The other 1% is just stupid and their marketers need to find better solutions to fast marketing. If you're going to advertise like that, you at least need to put effort into it it. Not just stop and leave. Get to know the community a bit.? Meh.

Depends on the site. If it is well known (as in millions of people visiting everyday), then someone would most likely click the ads. Otherwise, people would not give a crap, thus making the campaign near useless.
