Pokemon Black/White versions Discussion Thread

I used to play Pokemon on my gameboy when I was like 11 years old, and that was over ten years ago... even though I still think the game itself would be fun; I cannot bring myself to playing it. How does everyone else feel about it? Do you play it in secret?

Not at all! I play it openly, as do many others. =]

I've seen grown men playing Pokermon on their DS on the train obviously on their way to work... but it still doesn't convince me it's okay!

Maybe you're seeing it just from the wrong perspective then.

The game appears cute and bubbly on the surface, but once you get into the mechanics, it's actually pretty technical. Where you have people building and designing the most powerful and tactical combination of pokemon's strengths/weaknesses, their moves, abilities, stats, items, and a whole variety of other factors that makes putting together an elite team more of an artform than anything really.

Competition with other players is also pretty huge, so you can imagine how some people can really get into and such. As far as popularity in general goes, I've seen more fan art of pokemon than I think anything else imho.

The original games were pretty interesting to begin with, but the more recent versions are VASTLY more complex and deep in gameplay.

I have a quick question. Are you going to be able to transfer the new pokemon over to the old pokemon games like D/P/Pl or SS/HG?

Well duh, like any Pkm game.

I even told you I transferred my HeartGold(import) to my Black(import) and SoulSilver's when I pick up white. It seems I wasted my time.

Ok, so.. wow, lots of changes. lol

the whole environment display is upgraded, the battle system was changed too, (which I'm still trying to adjust a bit) not entirely sure about the camera moving every single attack @___@;

nevertheless I see huge improvements, and will see where this goes. I've only gotten about 2 hours into it so far.

I only beaten one gym leader in White, not I will probably play more after Dissidia 012.

I agree with you there but I've beaten 7 Gym leaders so far and shortly going on the 8th.

Just beat the first gym leader.

.. not the most creative gym. lol, but it suffices I suppose. Oh, forgot to mention that I picked snivy as my starter, and I got a panpour also.


Edit: also I modified the thread title, since at this point, I think it's pretty safe to say that the rumors that this game would be made are true. XD

for me it was Tepig and Pansage. =)

I like it for two reasons:

1) I always pick grass types. :3

2) it's final evo looks like melotic which is an awesome pokemon.

I picked Oshawott because I always choose water type pokemon to be my starter.

I picked Oshawott for the same reason as Ensifer. So far I've beaten the first gym leader. I got Pansear but I'm not going to take it with me. It looks good compared to the other pokemon so far, like Lilipup and Patrat. Imma take a Pidove cause it looks cute, though it looks more like a pidgeon when compared to pidgey. XD

I wanna take that zebra looking one too cause its awesome. Too bad I couldnt get that eagle one; only in white version. ;__;

I hate the fact that you have to wait a long time to trade in pokemon from the old games. I WANT MY WEAVILE. I still dont know how that infrared thing or whatever works.

I love how TMs are not limitless. Finally!!! I wanna eventually get a Tepig and Snivy, but since there arent any ditto's in the new region I'm going to have to wait on that.

I also noticed that training takes a longer time. Maybe its just me, i dont know, but I seem to get less experience when compared to the old games. I do love the fact that it takes longer for pokemon to evolve, meaning we have each of the forms somewhat evenly spaced apart.

Really? Training for me has been somewhat of a breeze.

I had to choose Tepig for both my versions as I always choose fire types for my Pokemon games, heh.
