I'm translating 美しい人よ by Chinnen and I'm having a couple of issues. Lyrics and translation so far.
verse 3 line 2
[1] Does that mean, "I'm unable to say that I'm conscious of you"? Does anyone know what that could mean in a love song?
verse 8 (with provisional translation)
The day I invited you to a meal with “I'd like to go out with you,”
I gathered every bit of courage
and my wish was marvellously fulfilled.
Although you are within my grasp,
I don't get closer to you than being on formal terms.
[2] this doesn't make sense. If he's not getting closer than formal terms with her, how can he have invited her to lunch (or possibly dinner)? or does this refer to something he's dreaming about but can't make happen? But 誘った is in past tense ...
BTW if you happen to think of any way to make some of the translated lines less wordy, any suggestions welcome.
