    Default Emails keep getting hacked?

So, I'm a very paranoid person anyway.... So I wanted to tell you guys whats going on and ask you weither or not I should be worried...

I had a Gmail account I made in 2004. In 2006, I was at college, and logged in and accidentally hit "Always remember me" (and I wasn't smart enough to realize that would be erased when I logged out...) But I sat there and made a new account, (the main one I still use to this day), deleted all my messages, and set up that if I got emails there they would be forwarded. I realized soon after, that the computer wouldn't really save my password, but I decided the original was a stupid name anyway, and I had already set up forwarding and everything, so I kept the new one I had made.

Every great once in a while I would log into the first one again, but around 2008-10 I lost the ability to log into it. I don't really know at that point if it already got hacked, or if I had just tried to use the wrong password too many times, but I couldn't get into it.

I also had a hotmail account for my MSN messenger. (Miss those days...)

After a few couple years, I tried again randomly, to get back into the original acount, but the security questions made it seem like someone was actively using it (IE, "What devices is this account connected to? - But I never had it on any devices). I gave up, but to this day I still (though not often but occasionally) get emails from that account forwarded like I had set up, newsletters and things like that. But no conversation reply, and I'd get that if there were any, right?

In... 2014 I think it was, was when the big crap happened.... At just about the same time, my Gmail and Hotmail accounts got hacked.... Now, first thing, (Trying to make myself less paranoid) The "Email name" was the same on both '[email protected]' the 'email' was the same (Not my actual email! Just an example) and ALSO, I had both of them set up for eachother for security codes, so they could have hacked one and saw the name for the other (probably the same password too at the time...)

I recoverd them, and I bit the bullet and gave Gmail my phone number. I hated doing that, but it seemes like the safest thing.

In the years since then, Ive started getting new security alerts to that very first account for new logins (In paris usually...) and even though I'm 99% sure there wasn't anything interesting in that account anymore, it still makes me uneasy.

Today, my secondary Gmail account got hacked. Somehow google knew it wasn't me and deactivated the account (and they said they deleted some emails... that freaks me out o.o what were they doing?? o.o)

I feel stupid because, I had that account delegated from my main account, so I assumed it had the same security with the phone number, but I guess not... (But I put it there now....)

But I was able to recover everything, and when I did.... they had sent a request for a password reset at facebook o.o So I was freaked out THAT got hacked too, but it seems that they didnt use it, there were no other devices signed in, but I "Signed out of all devices" and changed the password to be safe.

    So my question....

Does it sound to you that I am being targeted/attacked? Or do you think that over the course of many years, with hackers and stuff, this kind of thing 'just happens' occasionally?

It happens. Someone once used my e-mail account to send out ads on Viagra. They went to everyone on my contact list. Fortunately everyone knew it was not really me. The same thing happened to my parents.

My advice is to do a full security scan of your computer at least once a week.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that just happens... I mean it's bad but, you know what I mean!

Speaking of Security scans.... I have a free antivirus and free firewall... Do you know anything about Mcafee? I heard people say it's bad, but I found out I can redeem a free subscription from my ISP for it, so I thought I would ask.

From my own experience only. McAffe is pretty good, but if you have Windows defender as well the two can cancel each other out. That happened to me. Windows defender comes with Windows and has worked well for me. Still one of these days I will need to get a good professional cleaning done.

Anyone else on security. I am not a tech geek, so I am interested in the opinions of anyone who is.

Recently, Apple send a personal email to me about my apple account when in fact I don't have an account with them. I am using my Mom's account, do you think that it is a way of hacking my yahoo account?

Yeah, don't reply or click on any links from that. There is a lot of spam like that.

A good way to know is to look at the actual email address. For example, (I don't use Apple or I'd use that as an example, but this from my spam vs real) an actual email from Amazon, will be from @Amazon .com (Looks like the first part depends on what the message is, 'Auto-confirm@Amazon , ect) But always @Amazon .com, where as in my spam I have an amazon that I knew was spam, and the adress is random letters and numbers. Even though I don't KNOW, I would assume that apple would be the same way, @aPPLE ,com So yeah, be careful!

If that was the case, then it would have been made up to be from yahoo and not apple which is how these phishing scammers operate since they don't know if those they are sending the messages to actually have the specific accounts since they would only mostly try to gain access to account services that have specific details like card details like credit and debit cards which they can use to purchase gifts and such (which is why I don't have any card details on certain sites and services like apple, steam and the playstation store and such).

My paranoia continues. I had completely forgotten, but in 2010/2011 or so, My grandpa got a nook for Christmas. (An e-reader thing). (Finding that in my emails is the only thing making me a tad less paranoid, because my name was in the account) but he hasn't had it/used it in at LEAST 3 years.

Today I get an email from Barens and Noble that my email had been registered to a nook... I quickly sent a password reset to myself, reset the password, changed security questions, ect, but it just makes me paranoid more. Maybe I just need to calm down and take a breath, but it really makes me paranoid that someone is out to get me.

Edit: Just talked to barns and noble and they said it was a glitch.... I hope.... *Worries way too much*
