I find it more visually appealing than watching a regular show more often than not. I also like dealing with dark themes in a cartoon. I guess for me it's kind of a gap-moe thing in and of itself.

One thing I really like about anime is that it doesn't have actual people in it pretending to be a character. There is something about acting that bothers me, particularly if what they're acting out is violent or sexual. Anime has voice actors, but they aren't doing anything other than making noises and saying things.

Another thing I like about anime is the messaging and politics of it. A lot of western media is nihilistic or progressive, which I find to be obnoxious after prolonged exposure.

Finally, the manufactured nature of anime means it can be more creative with its settings, and I prefer fantasy over real world stories.
