Default Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

It's been a long time coming but it's almost here!

For all of their faults, I have really enjoyed Metal Gear Solid games. The story doesn't always make much sense, but they're enjoyable games.

Now that Kojima has been "let go" by Konomi, what will be the future of Metal Gear?

Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game series ever.

Since they chose not to recast David Hayter as Snake I sort of stopped playing Ground Zeros. But I will replay it fully at some point soon.

I honestly hope that they stop doing the game for a while, and maybe just tie up all the lose ends with the series and leave it alone before they ruin it completely for me.

I absolutely love MGS. Haven't really kept up with this one, but I keep seeing/hearing about Mother Base. I really hope it isn't as tedious as Peace Walker. It was a fun game, but the whole recruiting and base-building thing really took away from the game.

Game's good. But they don't have that long donkey cutscenes like previous titles. I like long cutscenes. Movie in a game, yo.

And the future of MGS? I guess PP is the last one.

My game of the year, right here. Does it fall short in some of the story aspects I enjoyed in other MGS games? Sure. Kojima and Konami caved to the whiners and incorporated far fewer cut scenes and dialogue in this one. Also, the episodic nature of the missions is bizarre. That all said, this game has fantastic gameplay.

It's pretty much exactly like Peace Walker on a bigger scale IMO. The whole recruitment thing and building Mother Base was what I hated about PW. I really hate to see that it was incorporated into MGSV. I much prefer the old style, where it was pretty open and free and the weapons were procured on site rather than built by a base. I just really hope they keep MGO similar to MGO2 when they release rather than the way it was on the portable games.

I really liked peace walker. I mean dont get me wrong its very different from the other titles but i think there is room to appreciate both. Im a bit of a power junkie so i love any game where u get to a mass large amounts of power and build armies and stuff. Plus it plays into Big Bosses story. Ive been on a run playing all the games getting ready for tpp and just last weekend beat peace walker and started 4 and they are both different but both work in their own way.

@Sidetrackphyco I not saying it isn't fun or anything, but barely anything about it feels like MGS to me. Too much of the game is focused on recruiting and building the base. It felt more like an old SOCOM game I used to have.

@ZombieWolf2508 I guess I see ur point in that. They could have made it a spin off game outside the metal gear solid story proper and made the narrative true to the original style of the game

i played Snake Eater an insane amount, i loved it so much and i thought i would love MGS4 even more because of the more modernized aspects... but i didn't. Snake Eater had so many memorable characters. every member of Big Boss' unit had a distinct personality, Ocelot's character was given more depth by being portrayed as young and brash, and i didn't mind watching long cutscenes because i liked learning about the cutscenes. i never skipped any of them even when replaying for the tenth time.

but in 4, i just could not care less about anyone but Snake. his character is timeless. he doesn't have a ton of depth, and he follows his own morals, so it's easily to put myself in his place and feel like i'm experiencing things from his perspective. i don't know if it was changes in my own life or what, but none of the characters in 4 besides Snake were interesting at all. the bosses were blank slates with one emotion. telling me their backstories after i kill them doesn't make me care about them in the least. show, don't tell. i barely remember anyone on Snake's team besides Otacon, and he had some retarded love story going on that i also didn't care about. in Snake Eater, the cutscenes seemed justified because they moved the plot along. i played 4 once, tried replaying it and just stopped. i haven't played it since. it turned me off to the franchise. it just seemed very cookie cutter to me.

won't be picking 5 up, especially now that i know Hayter won't be playing Snake.

I must officially rescind my last post. This is not my game of the year. I just beat it and wow, either Kojima was pushed out before he could finish it, or this is his last big middle finger to the gaming community. If someone wants me to list the horrible flaws in this game, I will.

That said the game play is very good.

To put it simply, chapter 2 feels rushed. Most likely Konami pushed the game to release before Kojima could finish it.

Daily reminder that Hayter is a hack and has been replaced by actual voice talent yet the salt seeps from the fanbase daily.

    SPOILER ALERT!

Not even rushed, it is almost entirely absent from the game. Chapter 2 is mostly just rehashed missions from chapter 1. The way the game ends is so incoherent and bizarre. You go from that incredibly stupid mission that involves you having to execute your own men. A mission that is set up to be an awesome zombie fest, and instead just has you execute your guys who are begging not to be killed, saluting you, shaming you. Yeah, we get it Kojima, we should feel bad. It goes from that, to a replay of the very first mission, there is no final climax or final boss. There is no closure to the whole premise to the game (revenge on Cipher). I can deal with non-traditional story telling, like for example No Country For Old Men. But this is like if the second half of No Country For Old Men was simply a retelling of the first half.

Yeah a few missions are just..not needed. You know what I'm talking about. Also fighting Sahelanthrophus..I expected more than just run and gun. After that mission everything just fell for me. This game was a great ride, bit of a letdown in the end.

    I rarely post, yo.

Default Metal Gear Solid 5: TPP

So, after playing about +140 hours, and after reading and watching some videos it seems like this game is somewhat clear to me.

    I have to say that this mgs was satisfying, and disappointing at the same time. The whole game is interesting to play, and the revelation at the ending is pretty cool actually. But, then there were so many things that were left hanging/unresolved. So much could have been done storywise with all the elements that there were available. I don't wanna sound like a fanboy, but I blame Konami for the downsides of the game. In my opinion this could have been the greatest mgs of all time, if only given the chance. But anyway;

Did you enjoy MGS5? Was the story satisfying? Your thoughts...

(so there already was a thread, lol. )
