Video Games Gone Movie And Vice Versa

In my experience it seems that video games based off of movies are usually horrible, and movies based off of video games are usually much more successful.

Any Disney movie gone video game I can think of turned into a failure. Minus some of the Harry Potter games, which were generally only bought by avid Potter fans anyway.

The Resident Evil movies did quite well at first, Mortal Kombat was alright in its time, Advent Children did quite well in my opinion.

I am curious, if anyone knows of any movies based off of a video game were horrible or good, or any video games from movies that were good or awful? (If this is such a common and unsuccessful endeavor, then why is it continuing on anyway?)

Super Mario Bros Movie = best movie ever. I'm not kidding either. Apart from that there weren't really any video game movies I really liked. Game based movies are always always horrible. Unless it's Lego something.

Current games based on movies suck...The Disney movie games on the PS1 were fun, Goldeneye 007 was good....Amnd some PS2 movie games are good as well, but then it went downhill.

They do suck- badly.

This is not entirely without reason though. The analogy to "the book was so much better" can be made here specifically for the fact that a 'movie' was made a movie, and not a video game.. because (obviously enough) if it was going to be better as a video game, they would have made it just that rather than a movie; visa versa.

The effect of translation is only achieved positively if there there are radical changes to the premise of the plot, dynamics, and whatever else have you so as to better suit the desired medium; otherwise, it falls flat on it's face as a doomed failure.

And so we are doomed to just watch as all of these pointlessly horrible games come on the shelf and just rot away, how very sad.

Can't really convince them to NOT make these awful games. Do they even have anyone test them? Maybe get a reputable and popular internet, tv or whatever reviewer to...review them? Oh well, I suppose the idea doesnt really fend off these just plain awful games.

Okay, strike's over. But the boycotting isn't. That requires much less effort. xD

One cann't not live up to the other simply because they are differently crafted. One serving to be for the media while the other is to play in its world. Titles big or fanbase will likely get sales because of its name and consumer interests. :/
