    Default Public vs Anon

Regardless of who votes for what, I'd like to see some comments on here . If I start sotw back up, I'd like to do it right, so, here's the choices.

Public+polls: Entries stay public, and we keep the poll options, not requiring a reason as to why you picked it.

Public+cnc: Entries are public (displaying usernames) and a reason is required as to why they picked an entry.

Anon+polls: Entries go back to being anonymous (sent via PM), and we keep the current poll options, not requiring comments as to why they picked it.

Anon+cnc: Entries go back to bieng anonymous (Sent via PM), but votes require a reason why they voted for it.

Other: Something not listed (comment/explain anyway)

I'm totally neutral on it, so idc either way . And if there's anything else you want to say/suggest, post that as well.

I feel that anonymous entries and comments really promote a generally elitist attitude for these contests. I've said it numerous times before, but I feel like art is supposed to be something you do for FUN, not to prove that you're better than someone else.

Public polls. Why? A lot of people appreciate art. A lot of those people also can't particularly put verbosity to those appreciations, and I feel like they have as much right to say that they like a piece as any other person whether or not they can say WHY they like it. If anything, you can at least take away the poll and allow posts that just say "I vote for Steve's entry." This'll put more work on the moderator, but it will also promote posting more than 5 words. This makes voting also no longer anonymous, so it's much more personal; which is a good thing. Someone liked your entry, not 1 liked your entry.

Anonymous entries feel too brooding and serious. Screw it, just let us see who made what.

The only problems I see with this is if people band together in posses to sabotage results, which is not really a problem because 1) lol internet badges and 2) Really? Making a posse to sabotage a forum signature contest? Who's really losing here?

We can run it the way we have been, with the same 5 or so people entering week after week, or we can take this in a new direction that will make the contests more welcoming to new members (of ALL skill levels) to the graphics section of AF.

I voted for anonymous with polls, but I'd be alright with comments.

Anonymity is important to me. If this stopped being anonymous, I'd probably stop entering. I know that I'm not completely unbiased, so I expect everyone else is much the same way. I pay more attention to entries made by my friends, and that's just how it is. Plus, there have been some times when I was genuinely shocked to discover who made an entry, and I enjoyed that.

But yeah, either polls or comments are cool with me. I usually comment, so nbd there.

Cantelope? Comments + Anonymity does not promote elitism at all.

That was all quashed in the hiatus thread and thus the whole point of your post has been made defunct.

Requiring voters to write an essay about why they're voting for an entry just to make you not accuse someone of cheating is promoting elitism. Come at me bro.

Asking someone to write one or two sentences why they like what they like isnt necessarily elitism. Its asking them to think for themselves.

While I agree that it is nice to have more detail on why someone cast a vote; I'm certain that it's best for this behavior to be encouraged, not required.

How about weighing votes? One point for simply voting in the poll and one for leaving a comment. Would be an incentive to leaving a comment.
