For many years Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving where people go out and get great deals from big box stores. However these past few years this has resulted in stampedes of people trying to save a few dollars resulting in property damage, fights, & trampling leading to both customer and employee injuries AND casualties.
However this year some stores (and malls even) are electing not to open on Black Friday probably for the safety of their employees and customers.

Some of the most notable stores are Costco, Lowes, Home Depot, Publix, Ikea, Joann, Petco, Sam's Club & Mall of America.
Personally as long as there's a Cyber Monday deal around I'm ok with stores closing. There's no reason to be feeding into the crazy mass hysteria over saving a few dollars that leads to deaths.
