The Russian Federation, the Republic of Cuba, the United Mexican States, the People's Republic of China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Socialist Republic of the Union of Myanmar all seem to have Governments that exhibit some Form of Fascism that drives their People crazy. It could be a LOT worse. But it all started in 1860 in November.

I really do hope people sort of band together to fight this on some level. Even if you claim you have 'nothing to hide' and do nothing, you are reinforcing the fact that people in the government have the right to watch you in the comfort of your own home. The last thing I want is for something like this to become normal, because then it will be impossible to real back when they start doing more stuff and telling you what you can and cannot do within the confines of your own home, if spying wasnt bad enough.

On the level of Snowden himself, I can understand keeping secret as a priority. Spying on China and North Korea, fine, they're essentially wild cards on the world playing field. But the NSA wasnt only spying on them, they were spying on everybody they could possibly find. I mean, if a friend of mine cheated on their other and told me about it, I would keep it a secret between us. A mistake any person could make; been there, done that. But if they do it a lot, or with multiple people, then I cant possibly keep a secret like that.

The thing I personally (yes, personally) hate about the NSA is that it seems to have a rather warped and potentially dangerous ideology of "national security"--this notion that every person (foreign or local) should be treated as some potential terrorist before being granted any right to defend themself. Imo, it's only natural for a country that persistently goes to war with other countries, and on the whim of mere suspicion of terrorist attacks (if not nuclear weapons) is going to get paranoid to the point of attempting to police the world in order to secure hypothetical overseas issues that it potentially bought upon itself. This practice is basically the same as saying, "Because I'm a douche, I'm going to judge others by my own standards and presume that everyone's a douche"--the sort of mentality I would liken to a thief being ever fearful of revenge attacks from their victims after committing a serious crime.

Not that I'm condoning any would-be terrorist's actions here, but in the end, terrorism is little more than another means to oppress a country--and there are many ways in which countries can be/are being/have been oppressed; be it through terrorism, the morally objectionable yet legalised one-way free trade system, corporate threats to governmental tax increases, and effectively-rigged elections, the results are the same: populations who are being forced to lead sub-human and undignified lives due to the consequences of ill regimes and campaigns for which they never voted in the first place.

And if it gets to the point where people are actively censoring themselves (like Eris said), and for that matter, stifling real debate for fear of being accused of inciting terrorism, then what's the point of national security? Because as we get ever closer to the point where we rather exist as mindless plants than live as sentient beings, I start to wonder from a point of humanity what is left of us to "secure" anymore. Think Wall-E or I Robot, and that would be more closer to the future we are virtually asking for by supporting the very concepts of the NSA, a patronising and restrictive future in which we are told what to think rather than to think for ourselves.

That the NSA's mentality of terrorism needs an overhaul is an understatement; for it seems more obsessed with the methods of terrorism than the intended effect: irrational fear to the point that people feel too restricted to advance themselves. It shouldn't be about merely protecting a country from potential threats of mass destruction (which would be virtually any principal country), but rather, it should be about allowing a nation to peacefully live in their country without the fear of "God" being put into them such that they cannot naturally go about their lives. After all, the true motive of a terrorist (or indeed terrorist group) is not necessarily to simply kill innocent civilians (which is a means and not a cause), but rather to make a nation afraid such that it is forced to conform to the same views as that terrorist. Whether this is achieved through threatening (and often badly edited) videos, crude weapons, or a government's own negative response to terrorism through mass surveillance schemes, the terrorist wins either way.

And no offense, but this, "I've got nothing to hide, so why should it matter" and the clichéd, "Things are much worse in other countries" crap--that's just the kind of sentiment that encourages the likes of the NSA to "justify" its actions, and that's before addressing the very real concern that "spying" is effectively already practiced through search engines such as Google, ISP's, cookies and even store credit cards. Nothing to hide, huh? Would that also apply to your physical mail, genitals, and house contents? The very things we hide from strangers for very sane reasons by the way. And why does the state of having nothing to hide, therefore nothing to be guilty of automatically validate an authority to see into one's personal life? Did it ever occur to you that hiding isn't always done out of guilt? What ever happened to one hiding stuff for the sake of dignity?

Yeah, so what if it's just the NSA that can potentially "see" my "stuff". I don't know what they have exactly earned to make me personally feel that they can be trusted, especially in light of the more recent reports that the same organisation has being spying on its allies as well as its "enemies", by which I'm essentially referring to my home continent: Europe.

What gives the NSA the right to puts itself above common law and human rights and decide that we should regard them as virtuous angels as they rifle through our "stuff" in the background? Because if I woke one morning to find that my (very-secure) account had been hacked, you damned right I'd sooner suspect the likes of the NSA doing it than some organised criminal gang.

As far as I'm concerned, this attempt to "police the Internet" is absolutely not necessary; or rather if otherwise, the inevitable result of what could only occur due to a prior calculated governmental risk, which the NSA effectively supported and thus brought upon itself. It effectively supported bills that would ultimately result in unjustified wars that were going to eventually incur the wrath of entire nations--yet it is the citizens of their own country who are paying the price.

You are not doing your Side any Justice by refusing to offer any real Proof to back it up. I am sick of beating a dead Horse when I went to an accredited set of Universities in the Sw.A.C., A.C.C., and S.E.C. Troy-Montgomery had no athletic Department, but it is accredited. My Urban Geography Professor says you cannot detriment the Culture of a past Society and a past Culture and a past Century with today's Standards, and when she graduate High School in the U.M.S., she went to Auburn and L.S.U. until she got her doctorate Degree. I trust her over you. College Professors from major Universities are not infallible, but their Opinion means more to me than yours. Especially when it is she who gave me the A.

Racism by definition is the hatred of a people based solely on the color of their skin. Jeffy is by textbook definition a racist. The only dead horse being beaten here, is you. I'm a Naval Nuclear Engineer. Attended the most prestigious academic school in the military. So i don't see the purpose of bringing out credentials.
