Do we have a date/location yet?

As much as I hate to admit....
I think I found the perfect venue. Why don't we look at meeting up at http://dragoncon.org/ next year in Atlanta GA?
This years dates are September 2-5. So maybe we can start planning for a meet-up event for Next Year? Technically we *could* do it this year as there's still 4 months left give or take. But we're broke so I want to be able to start planning to buy tickets/hotels when they're at their absolute cheapest for our users.
It's one of the biggest cons I know of (even though I've yet to go) and it'll be able to gather more people since we can get people who 1. Go there anyways regardless of where they live 2. Live in Georgia and surrounding states such as Alabama, Florida, The Carolinas & Tennessee. You have more access from different surrounding states thus less travel time and expenses compared to trying to get to N. Florida.. Much less Central or South Florida without flying.
If people are serious we'd likely take head counts & payments and purchase a discounted group rate right when next years tickets drop so that you can get the cheapest passes possible as well as work out hotels & transportation. -This tidbit is pretty much good for any con though if another ends up being chosen.

Dragoncon is nice, but it's also really huge... So being able to attend (ie: finding a room or parking) might be an issue. Good news is that there's a few AF folks nearby, and if anyone's a furry they can bring their fursona.
If you get a room right when tickets drop or the dates are announced then it shouldn't be much of a problem.
If we plan for next year we can start prepping this year to make sure anyone who is interested can start budgeting for it and make lodging and travel arrangements. If anyone wants to split the cost of a room and so forth. We have plenty of time to work out the details once we decide what we really want to do. But we should pick a solid venue sooner than later so that we actually CAN start planning to get things when they are being released. The closer it gets to the events; the more the prices go up.
So if we say we want to go to (X) con. We can start prepping for it before they release the dates that way when they do start announcing everything we can be first in line and get everything taken care of and save ourselves some $$$ without fighting for availability or paying $50-100 extra due to waiting so long.

Speaking of which, is there a way we could buy some tickets and such in bulk for a little "just-in-case", if you know what I mean?
I would avoid buying tickets without payment (or at least a downpayment/hold) up front. Unless you want to shell out nearly $100per ticket for 'just in cases' without knowing if you get your money back.
Edit: I might be willing to buy one extra at the cheapest rate but after that nothing really is preventing anyone else from joining in late, it would just cost an extra $10-30 or so dollars depending on how late they decided to join in.

Well I'm not talking about buying like 50 tickets or rooms. Maybe just 1-3 per willing/able person. Besides, I can probably scalp the rooms or tickets easy to some local furries that wish to attend to make money back.
Once they announce the date I'll create a private FB group and we can all gather there for those that are serious about attending.
But the minimum amount for the discounted group rate is 10+ passes. Which is an achievable amount but I will require full payment or non-refundable downpayment to get the group rate. I'm generous but I don't want to lose hundreds of dollars. If you want to buy bulk without payment up front for those who might join later in the game I'm not stopping you from buying some yourself but I assume you would understand the risk if you do choose to do that though.

I was kind willing to go if it was in Orlando....a little less but still if it was Florida. Not going to Goergia to end up being shot at or stopped by a cop for no damn reason.
Yeah, I was gonna suggest this but couldn't be arsed to log in a few days back. Just buy some tickets and whatever you have extra you can sell them on eBay or Craiglist. There's always people willing to buy near the entrance from my experience with New York Comic Con and E3. Not sure about Hotels but pretty sure you can do that too.
Okay, I'm still good with the badges, if people still wish to do that. But just to let everyone know the size will be about standard credit card/id card length, height, and width. Also I have an added option for a magnetic strip on the back that we can code for room access or something. Doubt we'll need that, but my badge maker wanted me to let everyone know just in case. Also just one color roll (for ink/toner) will do around 200 cards. If there's more than 200 people coming (which I don't think will), then I'll just shell out the money for a second color roll for him. No worries.
WITH THAT SAID! For the GFX community and anyone else that wants to take a shot at designing a really cool awesome badge for us. My badge maker requests that the file(s) used be in .jpg only. He knows it's an inferior file format, but that's what the program likes and any other format will have to be converted to .jpg. So instead of wasting his time to convert to .jpg and ruining the image quality, he wants it delivered in .jpg format already. I've got a test card in hand, and I'm gonna try to get a pic up front and back for everyone to see soon.
Ft Lauderdale is a hell hole, and I don't feel like getting murdered.

Being from Atlanta, yes...greatly. Atlanta has not discovered Bath Salts in the same way that Ft. Lauderdale has, ... and its more likely to be in downtown Atlanta, next to the aquarium, and Coca Cola museum, which means added security.

Okay, time to bump the thread. For anyone that doesn't know DragonCon is September 1st-4th this year. I just bought my ticket today for $115. Hotel's will probably be pricey as hell, so maybe Airbnb it, or try to get a hotel just outside of Atlanta to stay at (easier to do if you're driving in or have a rental).
Also, if anyone is from the area or been to DragonCon before, I'd love to have your input on a good place for everyone to meet up. Otherwise we'll be trying to spot random folks we only know from internet pics... and some may be cosplaying. So yeah, having a set place and time for all the AF'ers to group up and meet, photos (solo and/or group), etc. would be most beneficial for everyone.
Perhaps you have some input from experience, @Kaitou Ace ? ie: previous AF meet-ups and con experiences.
Okay, due to lack of experience with this and no one else pitching in any ideas. I've set the meet up location across the street from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Atlanta. Why? Because there's a Café right there (Corner Bakery Café), and because from what I've been told, DragonCon is going to be packed like crazy, so having it outside will give us a chance to find each other, and if anyone is in the area but doesn't have tickets or such, they can still hang with us.
I'll try to make up a sign for everyone look for, if I can find the time. But here's the meet-up post on the AF FB page. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.p...homepage_panel
