    Exclamation Joker

Has anyone seen Joker yet? I went tonight. Joaquin Phoenix does a great job descending from mental illness to pure homicidal insanity. Oh, when they say leave the kids home, they aren't kidding. This is one extremely disturbing film.

If you are waiting until the movie comes out on DVD, I should tell you there is some great sound editing towards the end. We see and hear multiple news reports on multiple TV's. Unless you have the most advanced home sound system on the planet, the effect will be lost if you watch this at home.

Joker is not the great classic some have claimed, in advance, it would be. But it is still a pretty good little dark, depressing, psychotic movie.

I know I am in the minority but... I'd much rather have "Batman Forever" type batman movies... (I never did see the original or Returns, and Robin was bad, but, I much prefer lighter and fun. Just my opinion, and like I said I know I'm in the minority)

You aren't, Takato. Light and fun, to the point where you want to play with action figures afterwards, sounds fun.

Joker I want to see, since the flick's trailer was so gripping and a borderline-tearjerker.

Though, Heath will forever be the Joker.

    Just sayin'.

Batman Forever was average. Val Kilmer was not a good Batman, though he was better than George Clooney or Louis Wilson.

Wouldn't you like to see Adam West's Batman go up against Heath Ledger's Joker? I'm not so sure Batman would win.

I agree it wasn't amazing in itself, but I just meant that style/feel in general. BF felt light and fun, and I just think we could have more of that. Though now I do wanna see that match-up.

Most of my friends didn't get the movie, mostly slept through it. I haven't watched it, but i heard it was awful.
Not wasting an hour on watching it.

I saw Joker about a week ago and it's the best film I've seen in about a decade. Before that I had not been to the cinema since they showed Toy Story 3. But I found trailer for Joker to be so compelling that on this one occasion I thought I'd view the film with a friend at my local Cineworld. And I don't mind telling you that watching any film at Cineworld is horrible experience, from the very poor customer service to the typically obvious and obnoxiously loud "cinema" sound to the disgusting toilets and then the horrendous ticket prices. True to form Cineworld presented Joker just like any other film - awfully, but despite that I enjoyed it. It's one of those few films that makes you question society, the government and yourself but isn't partisan about it and doesn't treat its viewers like idiots - which makes a change.

    Is Cineworld your only choice?

I am fortunate to have several good theaters where I live, run by people who take their business seriously. There is even the American Film Institute Theater down the road in the former Silver Theatre building. Unfortunately, I don't take as much advantage of these theaters as I used to.

Not exactly. My only other choice is the superior Showcase Cinemas but it's more difficult to get there reliably by public transport, which I rely on since I have no driver's license. About 15-ish years ago we did have the Odeon cinema where the service was much better and each room had its own signature look and acoustics. Cineworld by comparison is boring: every room the same which the same dry sound, but I suppose that franchises for you. To be honest despite what I said it doesn't bother me that much that my local cinema sucks. Home cinema for example has gotten better over the years and while it cannot quite match the wide soundstage of a modern public cinema (unless it's Cineworld) I think it does compensate in many ways. So now I just prefer to watch films at my own pace in my own home. The Joker was an exception though because I felt it was something special and I thought it'd be a nice way to treat my friend for their birthday, otherwise I'd probably had been content to wait for the Blu Ray release.

Good to hear that you have options in regards to good theatres. It's seems you have what we seem to lacking in my region: competition, I guess.
