What's with the blood licking?

I'm sure most of us noticed/encountered such in anime, so what is with the blood licking guys?

Not necessarily, I've encountered many villains in anime who do the same but are not vampires, yet, it's a good guess

I think it's meant to give the feel of 'Wow, that guy is a badass!'. I find either crazy characters do it or characters that are trying to look 'cool'.

Oooooooor they just love licking the blood of their foes because they either hate them or just enjoy doing it.
Either way I'm keeping the vampire theory XD

I think its just a small cliche that happens in certain mediums. Not really a "right" answer.

Anyway I think the whole licking thing is to just convey a sense of primal bloodlust. Or maybe they just like the taste of iron.

Well, you don't have to lick a sword to lick blood. Like this one scene in Black Butler II where some of Ciel's blood got on Claude's cheek and then Claude licked his cheek. Anyone who's seen that scene knows what happens next...

I didn't mean licking a sword. Blood just has that iron-y metallic taste.

True, there's no right answer, I just want to know your thoughts about it, as I've seen that a lot in anime & manga, as well as many movies, but it's more common in anime I think

It's from an old Japanese series called "Yuusha Yoshihiko to maô no shiro"(hero yoshihiko and the demon king's castle)

True, I've also seen many combat scenes where at some point one of the combatants licks blood, some even spit it after.
Sheng Tsung from mortal kombat the movie did it as well at his final fight with Liu Kang

It is a right of passage you have to have a villain that does it Cause it is just that WOW factor like that just happened.
