I agree Valentines day is a load of crap. But sounds to me like she's keen on this other guy but really doesn't want to hurt your feelings, and possibly wants to make sure he feels the same way before she goes and ends your relationship. If that's the case i'm very sorry for you, but don't think the year was wasted cos all relationships (even bad ones) help you learn, and grow, and get closer to "the one who is for you and only you".
