Early Laurel and Hardy Film

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were first paired together by producer Hal Roach. They weren't yet thought of as a team, just two more actors in Roach's studio. But that would change.

Flying Elephants is just one of the several shorts Laurel and Hardy appeared in for Roach. Note they have yet to develop the Laurel and Hardy characters, though some of Stan's mannerisms in this movie are a sign of what is to come.

I would reemphasize that technically this is not a Laurel and Hardy movie. This clip has the original title sequence, with the two billed separately under the title. YouTube has other versions of this film with an updated title sequence which does have their names above the title.

I don't know what the first official Laurel and Hardy film was. I have to do some research sometime. But I know it was a silent produced by Hal Roach.

Did you know that there are Two Laurel and Hardy Museums? One in Ulverston, Cumbria, England where Stan Laurel was born, and one in Harlem, Georgia where Oliver Hardy was born.
