Weeell, it's not really like .hack//sign, but it's the sheer definition of adventure, easily.

"Tell her that I miss our little talks."
Dragon Ball - Just the Original.
Groove Adventure Rave - Rather odd but enjoyable.
Grenadier - Blatant fan service but done well and is actually funny. Has a good story that actually leaves you disappointed by the fact it's rather short.
Noir - Rather sad and tragic tale. Starts a bit slow but picks up around episode eight.
Inuyasha - This is hit or miss with a lot of people. My only major problem with it is it's too long.
Fist of the North Star - I only suggest this if you don't mind really old anime. And by old I mean it aired from 1984 to 1988 with 152 episodes.
There's not much quests in it but they do all contain traveling and don't center around one location.
The two must read/see adventure manga/anime are:
1. Dragonball - Defined adventure manga, and utterly reinvented shounen manga in the process. Two decades later and it is still considered the iconic shounen adventure manga, and served as the inspiration for pretty much all modern shounen authors.
2. One Piece - While Dragonball defined adventure manga, One Piece perfected it; with top-notch writing, it oozes with the sense of fun and adventure. It is the highest selling manga of all time, and the 2nd highest rated manga of all time (Slam Dunk being the first, if you were wondering), and for damn good reason.

"Tell her that I miss our little talks."
Whether or not you choose to believe it, it's true.
First off, remember that One Piece began in the 90s, at a point in time when manga story telling was considerably different than it is today. It has evolved considerably over time, and "kept up with the times" of the manga industry; it has inspired authors today as Dragonball has done since the 90s.
Second, you cannot judge such a long-running series simply by the first episode; especially when it's a series based on adventure rather than fighting or drama...it thrives on the progression of story. You'd be very, very hard pressed to find a manga as creative as One Piece, and in terms of writing, Eiichiro Oda has the skill to match even the literary Naoki Urasawa or epic Kentaro Miura, though he is much more comic in his style than either of these two peers, who's works are much more serious in nature.
One Piece is the sort of series where, the longer you stick with it, the more it pays off. Its quality increases exponentially as it continues to move forward.

Tower of Druaga series perfectly fits that description!
1st series is called Tower of Druaga - the Aegis of Uruk
2nd series is called Tower of Druaga - the Sword of Uruk
The 1st ep of the 1st series is really rather pointless, so don't be turned off by the first 15-20 minutes of it since it's just a dream. xD
Judging One Piece after one episode? It is one of the best anime ever sotospeak. Dragonball is more for children, when I was in fourth grade i bought the manga books and read all of them, there where only 42 of them I think. 1-16 were Dragonball and efter that they became Dragonball Z.
RECOMMENDATION : ONE PIECE
The only adventure-ish anime I got in my completed list is: Samurai Champloo :P
Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Samurai, Shounen
Rune Soldier comes to mind. It's kinda short but it fits the bill.
Scrapped Princess....perhaps?
