Default Amagi Brilliant Park - Extra Magic Hour

Since it's been over a month and the original translator hasn't responded, I'm working on a new translation of this song, but like most songs off Decennia (even though the lyrics were written by a bunch of different people), it gets pretty weird in places, so I'd love a second (third, etc.) pair of eyes on it.

    パズルのピース はまるみたい
    違うカタチ つなげてみる
    バラバラだと 見えなかった景色が突然
    目の前に浮かんで 動き出すカンジ

    PAZURU no PIISU hamaru mitai
    chigau KATACHI tsunagete miru
BARABARA da to mienakatta keshiki ga totsuzen
me no mae ni ukande ugokidasu KANJI

We try putting our different forms together
    Like fitting together puzzle pieces
The scenery I couldn't see was torn apart
Suddenly floats before my eyes and I feel I've started moving [1]

[1] Is there a better way to phrase this? It's kind of a garden-path sentence as is, but I couldn't come up with anything better.

For [1], my idea would be:
"The Scenery I couldn't see was torn apart and suddenly,
it floats before my eyes, I feel like I've started moving "
to avoid this strange "I feel I've" thing.

That's not quite what I was asking, although it does illustrate the problem with my current phrasing very clearly. My issue is, as far as I understand, the "~だと見えなかった" means that the singer couldn't see that the scenery was torn apart. Or maybe it's more like "the scenery that didn't look torn apart [to me, but in fact it was]"? So my translation as it stands is "[the scenery [that I couldn't see was torn apart]] suddenly floats before my eyes", not "[the scenery that I couldn't see] was torn apart." "... that I couldn't see was torn apart" is, in its entirety, a modifier for "scenery"; it's not the rest of the sentence. But on further consideration, I do think "... that didn't look torn apart" is a more accurate translation as well as not being so misleading, so I guess that answers that question. Though of course I'm still open to other suggestions--or to being told I'm misunderstanding the "だと見見える" construction, which I may be.

"I feel I've..." is perfectly fine English grammar.

Great, my first post ever in this forum and it starts off with me completly missing your point.
For the "だと見えなかった" part, as far i learned it and as far as its written in my grammar book, the "と見える" construction actually means that something looks like something when in fact it's not known (in other words: "sth. seems like sth.)
So in this case, yes, I would go with "the scenery didn't look torn apart"-Translation. (wheter it's in fact torn apart or not, is not known)

That's okay! I've had worse reading comprehension failures myself. Anyway, thanks for the confirmation on the meaning of that construction--I'm never really sure how to look things like that up, at least in a way that results in explanations for non-native speakers as opposed to just a whole bunch of random instances of the construction being used. (I mean, sometimes that helps! But figuring things out based on context is sometimes not enough to make me confident I really understand a thing.)

Hm, that line reads more like 'the scenery I couldn't see due to it being in many pieces' to me. Fits with the puzzle metaphor.

That was my initial assumption considering it makes the most sense, but can ~だと mean "due to/because of"? I haven't encountered that usage before.

That's were i got the explanation of "と見える"
Maybe you want to check this and then see if you can "copy" this definition on your case.

I think the 「動き出すカンジ」 is referring to the scenery, not the narrator moving, though?

Thanks, that looks like it could be a helpful resource! It definitely fits with how I was reading the line, but I'd still like to hear back from @bambooXZX about why they think it's "couldn't see because it was in pieces," because I really wanted it to mean that, but couldn't make it line up with the grammar as I understood it, and I'd like to know if there's something I'm missing with ~だと that would allow it to be read that way.

Hm, I guess 'due to' in my previous post may have been bad word choice on my part.

I see this as the general-use と, as in 'this is what I said/thought when I did the thing' - in this case, バラバラだ just further explains 見えなかった. I'd say the special case with と見える is coincidental. This conclusion largely comes from accumulated experience and intuition, so it's kind of hard for me to find citations, but maybe a few examples of what I mean will help (just going off other works by Fujibayashi Shouko as a jumping-off point):

    -当たりまえだと頷いていたら
    -ミントは嫌いだと戻って来た
    -届くはずだと 腕をのばすよ
Just examples where だと phrases are followed by verbs without special cases for と.

So I guess you could say it's closer to the と of と言う, とする, etc? The だ isn't particularly important.

All right, I'm sold. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
