Phil, I'm just looking for your opinion on this as it just sparked as this person and I are seeing on levels that are much different.

This person is saying that smoking cigarettes is worse than smoking weed. Personally, I think this is an incorrect statement. The reason I'm saying this is because just like I've said before, weed has many more detrimental effects on both mind and body. Many new projected outcomes from smoking will arise as a result. I'm pretty sure the death toll from weed is higher considering the motivation to act based on past experiences and bad judgment would be one of the main causes aside from automobile deaths. Also, those urinalysis exams aren't the only way to detect drugs in someone. Blood tests can also be administered.

But if it was legal it would be regulated like alcohol. You couldn't smoke it in public places, at work, in schools etc. Alcohol is legal even though it is far more damaging to your health and the health of others. All the points you made could be made for alcohol. People can easily spend over 50 a night on alcohol. Alcohol can easily cost far more than weed and is legal.
I see where you're coming from when including alcohol. Any normal person would make a bottle of liquor or a pack of beer last for some time instead of just finishing it quick and bringing it back up hours later with a side order of regret. Would you see a petition being issued by those not tolerating the use of weed were it legal?

LOL I drink too much. I seem to have exaggerated the very. Were talking about one to two beer's a day. Probably no more than 10-15 drinks a week.

Cider (pronounced /ˈsaɪdər/) is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of apples. Although cider can be made from any variety of apple, certain cultivars are preferred in some regions, and these may be known as cider apples.

    I'm guessing you mean this?

I feel weed is less dangerous. Cigarettes are physically addictive. If weed was legal a lot of people would try it maybe once or twice but most probably wouldn't use it regularly. I cant see misjudged actions equalling the amount of people who die from cancer because of cigarette addiction. From my own experiences when I'm high I just want to list to music(as opposed to when I'm drunk and I walk a mile to a friends house at 4 in the morning to dig up his garden.

Any normal person would make a bottle of liquor or a pack of beer last for some time instead of just finishing it quick and bringing it back up hours later with a side order of regret.
You should visit Ireland sometime. Friday-Sunday is nothing but finishing quick and regretting it in the morning.

What some see as misjudged, others see as something they brought on themselves. They are the ones who chose to smoke so they are the ones who suffer the consequences. Sometimes, people who don't smoke suffer as well. The stench lingers on clothing, after all.

Now, if it's fine, I would like to ask you this. If weed, as you feel, is less dangerous, why is it illegal. Wouldn't cigarettes be considered illegal instead? Either way, people are going to want the illegal stuff as it gives them a sense of achievement when they acquire said item, whatever it may be. I'm probably treading in hypocritical waters, aren't I?

Stuff like second hand smoke is dangerous but it also goes for cigarettes. As for someone loosing the rag because of paranoia or something well the same could be said for alcohol.

As far as I know weed was made illegal not because of its negative effects but decades ago because of racism. I'm not sure of that now so don't go taking it as a fact. It could have also come from the same morals that led to the ban of alcohol. But prohibition showed that making it illegal only funded crime. I see the same for weed. I'd rather see it legal and heavily controlled by the government instead of funding gangs and being sold when there could be anything in it.

The problem here is where would all of it be sold, if legalized and heavily controlled by the government? Convenience stores and gas stations would still be open game for robbery, wouldn't they?

I have never smoked. No need to try. I've seen what it's done to my mother, and I don't need to find out for myself.

I've drank a little before. I had champagne on New Years and vodka once. I think it's a little overrated though. I was never too fond of it. Beer was just awful though.

One could open a whole new type of building. Like a pub is for drink or something like smoking rooms that many buildings have. In the Netherlands it is often used in 'cafes'. Make weed cafes or restaurants, it would also create jobs.
Robbery would still be a problem, but liquor stores get robed all the time while pubs and cafes rarely do. If you could only smoke it in a designated area there probably wouldn't be the robberies.

Would there be a rule for employees though that states that they are not to be high on the job. Would firearms for store clerks be allowed to prevent robberies? I think such establishments need extra security.

Can a pub owner be drunk while serving?
I am not supportive of gun use. I don't support gun control at all. But your point does raise some issues. Such as second hand smoke. Employees shouldn't be subjected to second hand smoke if the don't want to be. A separate smoking room would be required. Removing the idea of having a weed only building.
Unless it was like a drug store(drug stores here don't mean the same thing in America, were talking about a shop that sell incense, certain types of mushrooms, bongs etc). But then were back to robberies and where one smokes it. I suppose it could just be a like a liquor store and like alcohol you cant use it in public. It would be a home thing.
I think you mentioned something about the problem of smoking weed around kids(or maybe not, anyway the issue is raised). People do that with cigarettes all the time. The only way you could stop it is really just through education.
This is a Sig. It's horribly out of date.

I think he is trying to call you a prude, based upon one of your previous posts, that you wished you hadn't come into the thread so that you wouldn't end up hating people that you liked because they were drinking and/or smoking. So I guess he is calling you immature for acting like a prude. That's just my guess.

I honestly can't say much about maturity on this subject, since the reason why I drank in the first place (at a party with my friends) was because of immaturity ("Since my parents aren't here, I might as well do it."). I won't say that a person who drinks is more mature than a person who does not. However, at the same time, I won't say that a person who does not drink is more mature than one who does. Why? Simply because there are so many variables about a person. I am not going to say that a person is immature simply because they drink; I don't know much else about the person, a point I think McDoom was trying to make (again, I am guessing), since you said that you might end up hating some of the people that you liked simply because you found out that they drink alcohol or smoke.

Acting like a prude makes me immature? Well, calling someone immature for acting like a prude is by far more immature. Why don't you go crawl back into your hole, eh McDoom?

Hm...Well my father used to give me sips of his beer while he braided my hair around the age of 6. And at 10 I stole my mothers cigarette and tried it, didn't like it.

    Then at 13 I was with friends and I started smoking, but quit after about a month. And Hm...Alcohol has been in my life for a while, when I was younger it used to be wine coolers, etc. Now, it's more actual beer and such. x3;

Smoking wise, For a while I was against it, but then I had a rough patch and started again. x.x; So yeah.

Children should indeed not do weed. But when they are at a certain age they should be allowed to chose for themselfs. I mean, alcohol is a far worse 'drug' than weed if you look at accidents, effects etc. I find it stupid how the government is trying to fight a sutch well intergrated 'drug'. Weed has come to stay..Simple. It maybe used to be the fallouts of society who were doing it, but as of today its normal everyday people. It could be a well educated man with a well payed job as it could be a lowlife.

I had a period of my life were I used almost four years of my life smoking multiple times a day. It does screw with you, I wont argue there, but its nothing whitch is so complex that one cant break the vicious cirlce. Quiting cigarettes would be far worse (and something I still havent been able to). Weed isnt really addictive. Its the mental part that suck the worst (you could get some minour fysic signs bout it, but really nothing major compared to almost anything else). The government doesent care, I agree there so.. Kudos for you then.

ON TOPIC: I had my first cigarette and drink at the tender age of twelve.

    I don't like either.

I mean, I didn't even drink the wine at my First Holy Communion. I just don't like the smell of alcohol/alcoholic drinks. I'm sure my parents gave me sips of it when I was little, but apart from that I haven't ever drunk any. I just don't see the point when I can enjoy other drinks just as much.

As for cigarettes. Bleh. I hate them. Never tried one, never will. I don't like the smell, especially the stale cigarette smell that lingers on people who smoke. I don't know where this negativity towards them came from, but since I can remember I've been hating on it.

Other people can do as they please, as long as I'm not involved in it.
