Best Dark Anime

Of the ones listed that I have seen, Petit Cassette is a dog. Skip it. I think I started Texhnolyze once, but gave it up after four senseless episodes.

On the other hand, of those listed I certainly give a big thumbs up to Shigurui, Hell Girl (check out all three series), Ergo Proxy, and Paranoia Agent.

It's been a bit slow around here lately, so let's liven things up by going to the dark side. Anyone want to discuss one or more of these, or do you have a favorite dark anime you want to mention and discuss?

I think I got to the last episode of Paranoia Agent and never finished it. I might if I can get a hold of the DVD set. I'd def consider Serial Experiments Lain dark. More confusing than dark, though.

I would not call Lain confusing, but if you watch each episode twice, once in the English dub and then a second time in Japanese with the English sub-titles, you will get little nuances in each which is not present in the other dub. That will clarify a few things.

I forgot to mention Shiki. You think vampires are bloody? Wait until you see what the townsfolk are capable of!

Shiki definitely
and Psycho Pass are two newer animes that I feel can be given the title of Dark Anime and I think they both are very good. Two different styles so you might not like one , the other or both but yeah .

AOT does have its dark moments. But the reliance on action pretty much overcomes the darkness for me. They should double the angst.
