I was also thinking about a proper name experimented people: Elementals

MC: Aoi (because he's Japanese)
Mecha: Aura Suit (because the pilots use their mechs using their auras)
Pilots: Aura Users (again, because of the use of their auras)

The word "aura" can be substituted out if we come up with a better term for exactly what it is that the pilots emit.

As an addendum, maybe his name is Aoi because his aura is colored blue. Secondary characters could be named Aka (red) and Midori (green).

Actually I like that idea for a name, the only problem I have with that is that they also do that in kuroko no basket : MIDORIma AKAshi AOmine KIse etc. but aside from that I really like it, maybe you could change it to their type of auro/magic for example fire (Ka) and then add something behind it like the names from kuroko no basket.
So you got my vote on that one

The mechs I'm not so sure, I'm still curious what other people will come up with also since it'll be the name for the anime it's not as catchy (better than mine tho XD)

And as for the pilots, not sure. Even tho I like the link to the aura/magic/... it shouldn't be overused. for example naruto, they don't use the word chakra but more the manifestation of it same goes for a ton of other action series that have a certain 'superpower'.

It's not really a problem, it's a good idea, but as I said we should try it with something different like the example I gave or even something else like a material iron (which is tetsu) like that or even something different there's a lot of possibility

as for the mech suit I think we could try the other people that volunteered

So I'll update you guys
Basically it'll be a series where experimented 'mech pilots' get superpowers(thus not being pilots anymore) and they basically become awesome wizard monsters fighting mechs (big and small) with their newfound powers. Everybody has this power but these just have more of it I guess (this is the general idea).
Now we still haven't decided on a name for this power: magic, aura,... we dunno
Also a special name for the experimented pilots is needed and also the mechs.
Now the one where we have the most trouble is a name for the anime itself, it would be awesome if everybody got back into the project and brainstorm together so we can make this a reality.

also feel free to send any idea regarding story, setting, name, characters and pretty much anything

Alright so, I'm guessing we went with some kind of Ecchi Mecha manga? Great, my two least favorite genres OTL. As for the design/sketches/lineart for a mecha suit, no-can-do. I'm not a fan of mecha, and a big part of that is because I can't draw fancy techy stuff worth squat... I'm kinda worried I'll be useless in this project now, since A) I'm a month late on the up-take, B) it looks like the genres chosen have no personal interest to me, and C) because I simply can't comprehend or design anything mecha related.

I'll go through the thread to see if there's still something I can help with though. Maybe basic character designs or something? ;.; *reads*

It isn't purely mecha, as I said the 'experimented pilots' won't be fighting in the mechs anymore but against them.
see it as the Fairy Tail guild VS the gundams or something

and it won't just be mecha and ecchi it'll be a bit for everybody
action, supernatural, mecha, comedy, a bit of romance, ecchi, etc.

We made this story accessable for everyone so don't worry about the mechs you can leave that to other artists

Rather than split up tasks per "thing", we should probably spilt tasks per "element".

What I mean is, rather than one person do figures, another do suits, another do shrubbery. We should do it production-line style. One person do initial layout and scanned pencil sketches. The second could import those and do basic outlining. the third can do coloring (if desired, for splash pages and two page spreads), one person go back and add envorinment (rooms, beds, desks, trees, bushes), the final can do the speech bubbling.

The primary reason for this is to maintain a familiar artistic style for each element. We don't want one character looking like something for Ichigo Mashimaro and another from Bleach.

Coolness. Alright, so after reading, there are actually quite a couple cool ideas floating around. Though, I really disagree with the thought of having a predominantly Japanese cast. If we're in a future/post-apocalyptic setting, then there's going to be a lot more than just Japanese people traveling through space. So we need some American/Russian/German/etc characters as well. If we're adding in some kinds of non-Earth based lifeforms (which I'm assuming we are?) we should also include some really exotic names for them. We need a lot of diverse names.

To build on the ideas for names, I like DB's idea of having "normal" names alongside "code" names, but, we could have it to where they're only known as their codenames (TR3Z31) by the enemy so that they are relatively anonymous and hard to track in the beginning. Their real names could either be romanized (Trezei) or something else entirely, and should be kept secret. (Note: if the enemies that created these now-ex-pilots know them personally, then maybe they should adopt different names/identities after they abandon the suits, so they're not as easy for their enemies to track them.)

If we're set on a male MC with a unique Japanese name, then:
- ゴクロ / Gokuro: backwards for "Rokugo", which means "outlaw/outcast". Also a shortened form of "gokurou", which means "hardships". He could have a solid black (kuro) aura/pulse/energy form.
- 豊寛 / トヨヒロ / Toyohiro: Name of the first Japanese man in space. Also has "hero" in the name, so that's kinda cool.
- K0M0S3NSH1 : Possible codename, meaning 隠戦死 / Komosenshi AKA "hidden warrior".

Having a character personality written up for the MC would probably help for deciding names though, so these could easily get scratched off at some point.

Also, I noticed DeathBlade mentioned something about religion, but no one really expanded on the idea. I think religion could actually be really interesting to incorporate at some point, since it's an excellent motivator for war (honestly though). It could either be a clear motivation behind the battles, or perhaps a corrupt practitioner is using it to sway the war in his favor behind the scenes, and the readers wouldn't know about it until later. It could even be the guy/gal/alienpersonthing that created the mechas in the first place, maybe as a way to commit some sort of genocide as a ritualistic thing for their god(s). ...And I dunno why, but that sentence just gave me a huge FMA:B vibe.

At the moment we don't really have one but I wouldn't mind being the one if everybody's okay with that

then @RyuTama those are good ideas and the suggestion about characters from all over I really like since I suggested it in the past XD so that will definetely come in to play (logically). As for making the character first, that has been suggested a ton of times but we never actually did it (for some reason ?????) so I'll see what I can cook up with everyone's ideas mixed in and looking at the sort of character most people like.

As for the names I like the idea of having the meaning (also suggested that one, nice to have someone likeminded) I also like that you're bringing the coded back up since I really liked that idea. so we'll see after I create an MC everybody's happy with

As for religion, that's something that'll mostly depend on the plot after we work out the story further, sooo if someone would like to make a group for that, that'd be great

Not very keen on the Mecha genre, but I guess this can be good.

So, the "mech pilots" were basically guinea pigs, right? Just my two cents, what if they were given numbers while they were experimented on, and now they have to take up a new name(and a codename) to prevent being tracked easily, as @RyuTama said? If so we could base the names on the numbers; suppose the number is 2, in Japanese it's (二, ni, ji) so could be 敬二 Keiji, meaning "respected second one". We have to make the names more unique, though. We don't have to involve the kanji of the numbers either, like the name 詩音 Shion doen't have the letter for 4 (四, shi, yon) but the reading is same. Opinions?

The thing we decided on was that there will be different sort of mechs, the big normal ones are well...normal and then you have smaller ones like in infinite stratos that will be specialized to fight against the 'monsters'/'subjects'/...

We don't have to focus on mobile suits as with the conventional mech genre, we can fuse up things & come up with new ideas, let's say supernatural with technology, let's say those experimental beings having some sort of abilities which can be harnessed or amplified by certain devices, let be it gloves, weapons, mechatronically altered body parts, or whatever. We can make things work automagically we can say, rather than the conventional full mechanical tools/weapons we are used to.

So we need to come up with a map of the local area, hot spots, headquarters, etc, as well as notable terrain. What are the seasons like? What is the local weather like? We need to ask a bunch of these basic questions before writing anything, because if we don't, the story will have a "oh they made that up on the spur of the moment" feel to it. It will be obvious, trust me.

well that's what we're doing the mechs are infused with the 'aura/magic' of the user
the thing with the 'subjects' is they are now overflowing with it and mutated
imagine it like pilots= z fighters and subjects = super saiyans but now the z fighters have mechs that enhance their fighting

Yeah that's completely true, we already have a setting but we just need to give it 'shape', with that I mean all the hotspots etc.
it's just that we need to form a plot before we do that
and having some characters to work with makes the plot-invention easier
