I know that a lot of the J-pop listened to nowadays is usually newer artists or popular artists from the early 2000's.. but I was just wondering if anyone out there listens to older J-pop idols/ bands like from the 70's to early 90's?
Sorry if that time isn't considered "old school" yet ^^;;
Personally I really love Seiko Matsuda. I saw her in quite a few commercials I viewed on Youtube (I like looking up Japanese commercials on my free time.. lol) and noticed she was also a popular idol. She also sings the song 'Akai Sweet Pea'. The first time I heard this song was not from her however, but from Tanpopo#, a sub-group of the Hello!Project label.
Here is a video to her song 'Akai Sweet Pea'. I hope you enjoy it! ^^

I've also translated the song myself into english in case anyone would like to know the words ^^
Sorry if my translation is off ^^;; I'm still learning!
Viewing the spring scenery while going to the sea by train.
The smell of tobacco from your shirt arrives softly.
Why; It has been half a year today
and you still won’t hold my hand.
I will follow you. I want to follow you.
I will follow you. My spirit is
just a little bit weak but
it’s because you are a wonderful person.
There at the heart of the riverbank blooming is a red sweet pea.
April’s rain is falling and we sit at the bench at the station.
There is nobody around and suddenly it feels awkward.
Why; when you glance at your watch to see the time
I become moody and I feel like crying?
I will follow you ; wearing my boots with wings
I will follow you I want to run with you in similar youth…
There at the side of the train track blooming is a red sweet pea.
Today I love you more than anybody I have ever met.
I will follow you. I love the way you live.
As it is, I will not leave… I will not leave…
A spring day has arrived in my heart; a blooming red sweet pea.
