Default Simple spelling/grammar errors on the internet these days?

Did 3/4 of the population of the internet not pay attention in school or something? It seems wherever I go on the internet, people lack simple grammar and spelling knowledge. I can understand on some words, and if you don't care about how you type, but on others I do not see how it happens. Misusing to/too, your/you're, there/they're/their is what I see the most. What's the deal?

A few reasons I can think of. Mainly possibilities, but here goes:

    1. It's the Internet, no one cares.
Lets face it, if you can get their meaning, then we're on the same page. It doesn't matter how you spell it so long as we get the general idea. Also, the text typing and leet stuff you see on the Internet in general. Personally, as long as i can get the idea, then i don't care how they spelled it.

    2. It's faster to type to instead of too (by one freaking letter). That's barely an excuse, but people say it anyway.

    3. Some people are actually confused on it.
I know a lot of people that still get confused on which word to use (whether/weather, principal/principle, their/there/they're, etc). Even I get confused sometimes, but not often. Stuff like that was taught early on, so we tend to forget it or think since it was so early then it doesn't matter.

    4. possible typos?
My slight dyslexia+super typo combo usually gets me caught up in these situations, I'm sure I'm not the only one =P

    5. ???
    I don't know either.

EDIT: People need 2 lrn 2 semicolon also.

Mostly the reasons that have been mentioned, but some also do it to troll grammar Nazis if they've seen one react noticeably to poor English skills in the past.

I don't know about you guys, but I am Dutch, and even I can see that the grammar on the internet (even in this thread) is disappointingly bad.
I don't even have to start about the spelling errors made on AF alone. Let's face it. You can't stop it. It's because most teenagers don't give a crap about grammar, spelling and punctuation. All we can do is facepalm, and/or go all grammar-nazi on them. Or you just plainly ignore it. Come on guys, it's the internet!
Myself, I'll try to make correct sentences in both English and my other languages. Why? ... Because uhh... yeah. Just because you seem very dumb when you make noob speech/ugly grammar/bad spelling sentences.

Spell checkers play a pretty big role in modern spelling errors, in that they induce the Cupertino effectwiki and similar spell checker artifacts. If you just skim-read what you've written, you won't pick up small errors that are correct in spelling, but incorrect in grammar (or meaning). The eggcornswiki most of us carry with us also become more visible in written text.

Some people, mostly younger children, associate bothering about correct spelling with school, which is negative to them. They don't realize that it is this is not just the teacher being mean to them, but it's actually imperative to have correct grammar, spelling and punctuation if you wish to be understood, .

It does not only go for people typing over the Internet, it is the same as writing in a piece of paper. After a while, it starts to really irritate me.
Sad thing is, speaking in English happens to only be the easy thing that anyone can do. Most people are only good at that. When it comes to writing or typing, they basically suck.

I know I'm not perfect and I bet I made some typos and whatnot with my grammar, I just don't think its bad as others. c: Plus, English is my second language. I was first speaking Chinese~

I focus on what people say, rather than the odd mistake they make while writing it down.

If you're talking about people who write sentences which are so atrocious that you can't decipher them, then fine. If not, then what's the big deal with whether or not people bother to place a comma in the wrong place or mistake 'to' for 'too'?

I don't get what you're trying to say here. D:

I figure that a lot of people who don't type correctly on the computer also don't text in full sentences, either.
Some people have so many typos in their writing that I seriously can not understand what they are saying, though.
To type so horribly- even to speak that way- would require me to think for a very long time about what I am going to say.
Yes, I text in full sentences (and if I notice something it wrong with my grammar or spelling, then I go back and change it. I'm OCD like that).

Oh, and then there are people who have English as their second language. I can understand that.

I'm taking a writing class and it is really hard to write a perfectly good sentence. Yes, those who say that it takes much more time to type right is sort of correct, but not to the extent that its been pushed across the internet.

When I was in school I didn't play close attention to where I can place commas.
I now know what hell sounds like; I recommend a tactical nuclear strike on my position. Tell my family I love them.

I'm not talking about typos, I'm talking about people who don't even know they are misspelling words, or incorrectly using words. That's why I said simple errors.

    Typos are simple errors.

Does the idea that they might not realise they're spelling words wrong offend you? Or do you just notice more seeing as how you don't make those errors yourself.

3/4 of people at school probably did pay attention, just to the subjects and skills they wanted and use.

I'm not trying to just be contradictory for the fun of it, I just genuinely don't see how misusing words and misspelling is that big a deal.

Or maybe the people on the internet are just learning to read and write by themselves and not allowing an educated person teach them the basic principles.

If I can't understand someone I just ask them what they mean. I don't make a deal about it (at least I don't anymore).

the way I see it, the Internet is an informal place, so people treat it that way. When you're posting online, you are most likely talking to other teenagers, so it doesn't really matter. I don't see the big deal about simple spelling errors online. It's the Internet. Get over it.

The internet is very much a mirror image of the real world in that if you wish to be taken seriously, you need to come off as serious. Your language reflects who you are, and you will be treated as seriously as your language conveys you to be. That is, if you sound like a teenager, you will not be taken particularly seriously.

    I agree with this 100%.

When Sigma started talking all dumb and spazzy, a lot of people thought I was either stupid or girly.

If people would rather base the validity of a point that a person with bad grammar and spelling makes, on account of their writing skills, then more fool them.

It's the contrary for me. I make the individual feel like a disgusting worm that needs to care more about its education. Oh, and I make "it" say that I am its superior.

Or at least my former self.
