There's a supposed 30 minutes of recorded phone calls that his (presumable ex-)girlfriend submitted to the police. So far only 8 minutes has been released to the public. Having listened to it, the man is clearly not right in the head, or at least an extreme narcissist set on establishing a new world record for a sense of self-entitlement.

I think it's about time this scumbag goes away. He's had a string of terrible statements, getting worse and worse each time. Several instances in the 90s, the major incident when he was arrested for drunk driving in 2006, and now this.

The police are now seeking domestic violence charges against him, as his (presumably ex-)girlfriend says in the call that he was hitting her and punching her while she was holding their infant child, and broke two of her teeth. Gibson's response to this was "And now you're crying? You got what you deserved!".


Also, that 10-20 seconds where he just breathes really, really heavily is damn creepy.

I don't believe he is insane. Maybe his popularity descreased and that drove him to become an angry person. His movies did get a lot of criticism too, maybe it was built up anger from all bad reviews he got besides the good ones.

Well, it's kind of hard to see how "I'll threaten ya, I'll put you in a [expletive] rose garden, you [expletive]! You understand that? Because I'm capable of it. You understand that?" would be anything other than a threat. Largely because it starts with him saying it's a threat, and ends with him saying he's capable of it.

No, there's no doubt that Mel was being threatening and that she should take it seriously. I don't think that being famous means you can't use "I'd kill" hyperboles.

It's more like... you have to be calculating with what you say via easily recordable mediums. It doesn't matter whether you're famous or not, because even Joe Beau could get YouTube most-viewed infamy were he to be recorded pulling a Gibson.
It's not just public humiliation, but identity theft. People, not understanding the context of a situation, will quickly pass down judgement from the one-sided info they get. It's happening right here right now.
Regardless of any context though, I can call a fool a fool for thinking for one second that his phone conversations would remain private.

Exactly - all he did was talk about himself, and was horribly abusive. He also told her that she would "deserve" to get raped for wearing a long green dress at one of his premieres - which wasn't even overly-revealing in any way (not that clothes should count in that situation, anyway.) Along with saying something a long the lines of "you look like a dog in heat".

Few things disgust me anymore, but even I was disturbed after hearing what he said. I could hardly listen to it all, I can only imagine being on the brunt end of it.
