Backstory: Starting from the begining of the year 2012, the world we know has vanished. A strange virus has swept across the world, spreading death and terror everywhere it went. It is originally estimated that out of the 7 billion people on Earth, only 15 million survive.

But this is the least of the concerns. Global Tempratures have dropped as the Atlantic cycle stops due to melting Ice caps. While such a thing has happened in the past, it was due to natural causes rather than man made, and thus the change in the Earth's cycle brings a drastic climate change. The Southern hemisphere becomes drier and the winters longer. In the North, average yearly tempratures drop by 30 degrees, slowly turning the north into a frozen wasteland. Hundreds of thousands of people die.

Nature however has one last cruel strike against humanity. Massive Solar winds strike the Earth, disabling nearly all modern technology. With most of the survivors having become dependant on technology to survive the new climate, this causes even more deaths as many either lose hope or sucumb to the cruelties of this new world. Historians would later estimate that only 30 thousand people, maybe less, were left on the earth.

It is now the year 2025. 13 years have passed since the world we know was destroyed. Will Humanity rise up from the disaster, or will the human race finally be counted among the extinct?

The answer lies in the hands of a small group, who are begining to set camp near a large river....
The three types of people are....

Settlers: people who believe that cooperation is the way forward, it is their group that sets up near the river

Drifters: people who travell independantly, finding supplies as they go.

Raiders: these people attack and steal from drifters and settlers to survive, dishonerable but cunning.

Name: Ely Williams
Age: 26
Type: Drifter

Description: Large man with cold grey eyes and long matted hair. He wears a grey overcout over a worn boiler suit, he also wears battered combat boots and carries a large army issue backpack. He usually has his shotgun slung over his shoulder.

Personality: Ely struggles to befreind people as he is highly independant and strong willed, however when he dous make freinds with someone he becomes caring and warm.

History: even before 2012 Ely was a wanderer with few freinds, he left home at an early age and chose to travell the world, not caring where his feet took him, when 2012 happened the whole world changed exept for Ely who continued to wander.

Strenghs: innate sense of dierection, Shotgun

Weaknesses: Independant, Distrusting

Name: Kenji Balthier
age: 17
Type: Raider

Description: A loner who is willing to steal for his own survival. He wears Blue shorts with a White military issue coat with a red japanese insignia on the front pocket and on his back. He is usually seen with Animals being able to befriend them easily. His main weapon is his agility with a combat knife.
Persionality: Kind but cold persionality. He is a loner who does anything to survive, even going against his beleafs and killing in self defence when there is no other choice.
History: Born shortly before the 2012 change he is often alone. He befriends animals like cats and dogs and uses them as companions.
Strengths: Befriends animals easily, Can use throwing weapons like shuriken, kunai, or throwing knives.
weakness: cant befriend deadly animals, Stalls while fighting to advoid Killing anyone.

Name: Anieda feldera
Age: 16

Type: wanderer

Description: she useally wears two tunieks over each other and wears thick fake fur pants and a pair of combat boots. her hair is reaches her back and is natrualy red but has grey tufts at the end. it is useally worn in a ponytail or braid, her eyes are green but seem constantly bloodshot.

Personality: can be gentle if you can win her trusts, has a fondness for childeren but is weary off adults

History: anieda was born into a small family of two kids and father, her father owned a catamaran and learned her and her younger brother from a young age how to sail it. When the virus hitted in there little harbor town she, her brother and her father caught it to. her father died not long after getting the virus but both anieda and her brother survived, the only remains are her blood shot eyes and her brothers lungs were heavely damaged. Since they survived they were both treated like paria's by the harbor people until anieda had enough. she grabbed her provisions, her brother and they set sail on the catamaran down the river hoping to find someone who would acept them even if they were other virus survivers. However three weeks after they said sail her brothers lungs coulden't take it anymore and he died off lung failure. Anieda burried him in a small meadow near the water and setted sail again. She would travel from settlers to settlers and managed to make a small vegetable garden in the stem of the catamaran with the help of broken solarpanels. on occasion she would find a settlers camp that had been attacked by raiders and always checked for survivers, when she found them she would take them with her to the next setlement. Seeking for survivors is the only time she really leaves the catamaran beside if she sees something she can use on shore.
Strenghs: catamaran. willingness to help others
Weaknesses: does not trust easily, does not really like to deal with adults who reconigze her eyes as reminder of the virus.

Name: Benjamin Hamilton

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Type: Drifter

Description: See attachment.

Persionality: Cool and calculated, he is a drifter that will take calculated risks for resonable rewards.

History: Born a year after the events of 2012, he was mute but managed to learn via watching others. Other than being a very good planner and have reflexes beyond an average human, not much is known about this person.

Strengths: Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR) w/ Red Dot Sight and Desert Eagle as well as a knife for close combat with a next-gen HUD.

weakness: Needs ammo for weapons and may have to plan first before taking action.

Name: Tantalus

Age: 34

Gender: Male

Type: Settler

Description: Think of it as a combination of these two without the suit.





With the suit on, he looks like this...




Personality: Having been married to the queen carrier, Tantalus was subject to hatred during the start of the disaster. It was only after the disaster that he vowed to help those who wanted to rebuild civilization. Any who tried to serve as a disturbance to fellow settlers would anger Tantalus.

History: Before the disaster, Tantalus was separated from his late wife, Adel, the original carrier of the virus. Having been in contact with her for so long, he had never knew of her dilemma until the disaster happened and even so, his skin became hard and cracked during the time of the cold. When the solar winds had arrived, they burned a portion of his body to the point of radiating heat while the other portion spewed mist. He is now a settler with a bit of an odd face while his body...his whole being releasing steam. Taking up a used Hazmat defense suit, he hides his face behind a gas mask and the rest of his being in a set of black battle gear.

Strengths: Survival through harsh climates, versatile in terms of labor, sentry work, fighting and reasoning.

Weaknesses: Loves to play the sadist in interrogations...Due to the disastrous effects of the immediate shift in cold to hot, Tantalus had developed a split personality. His aggressiveness and anger...(The Heat) leads him to take pleasure in delivering pain to those he targets. He becomes far less laid back. As for his other side (The Cold), he becomes defensive and more reasonable...more laid back.

Answer to GAZ's question: I use a lot of forceful characters in games either on the PS2, 360 or the PC. It's like they provide the better offense and are more efficient with dealing with their targets head-on (apply directly to the forehead, head-on: apply directly to the forehead...). Barbarians and Vikings love the hunt and take pleasure in killing...one of the major forms of sadism. That's just one personality for my character though. The other is more of the defensive type, like a golem defending against most attacks...this side is the more reasonable, semi-persuasive one, using violence when absolutely necessary.

Name: Markus Redding
Age: 43
Type: Settler
Description: At 6'3", he towers slightly over most people. He has a tan complexion, and weathered features from surviving in the wastes that is now the world. He wears russian winter gear during most of the year, as he always wishes to be prepared for the cold and dry weather of this new world.
Personality:Very blunt and forthright, he doesnt hide what he feels about others. He does his best to think about everyone in his care, and is very protective of those he loves
History: A military brat, he is a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq. Always interested in history, he gained many historical artifacts and had a vast knowledge of how people of the past lived. This served him well when 2012 took place, sending the world spiraling into chaos and Anarchy. Survinv for the last thirteen years with a small community and on his own, he has set out to find a suitable place to begin again.
Strenghs: War Veteran, Knowledge of Ancient peoples survival techniques
Weaknesses: Limp from shrapnel damagee to his left leg, avoidance of modern technology

Name: Derek "Warpath" Finch


Age: 37


Type: Raider


Description: Like this, but older.


Personality: Depending on who you ask, "Warpath" has either lost his mind or realized his bold destiny. He truly believes he must conquer the remnants of humanity in order to organize and construct a new society. He is utterly obsessed with this goal and murderous when objected to.


History: Just previous to the end of the world, Derek Finch lived a sheltered life. Given every advantage growing up, Finch idled his time away, drifting without purpose into a simple accounting job. Every night, he found reprieve from his passionless life in history, reading biographies of great leaders who had rallied men under their banner.

Finch's first murder was not long after the chaos of the virus struck. A man broke into his home seeking to loot Finch's possessions. Realizing that there was little chance for a frail person like him scavenging among the chaos outside, the accountant struck back, and before he knew it his assailant was dead. At that moment, something snapped in the mind of Derek Finch. He realized destiny had gripped him. Others had failed to recognize his innate talents, but he knew he had been born to lead humanity out of this disaster.

Later, as the Earth was struck by cataclysm after cataclysm, a new man appeared from Derek Finch's apartment. Now calling himself "Warpath," he conquered his old office building by murdering vagrants who had taken shelter there who failed to recognize his destiny. Those who survived did so by being recruited under his banner, either for fear or swept up by his fanatical conviction. And Warpath learned quickly. What started as a former accountant with delusions soon became a ruthless warrior cult leader.


As supplies in the city dwindled, Warpath led his followers into the wastes. Over the years, his followers died from the harsh wastes or combat, without enough recruits to replenish them. Now, he and his remaining followers approach a rumored settlement at a river...


Strengths: Fanatical belief in his own destiny and the destiny of humanity which draws in others, conviction which allows him ferocious fighting strength

Weaknesses: Single-minded obsessiveness which obliterates any ability to understand another's mode of thinking, periods of depression which last anywhere from hours to days during which he is dependent on others for protection

Thanks. I was trying to come up with someone who I believe would be capable of leading those around him through this hard time in human history.

As for Warpath, I don't think he sounds like Hitler, at least in the sense he has no desire to destroy any single group of people. He simply kills those who do not follow his path, which includes, well, anybody :P

Should be interesting to see how many people get into this. As a side note, anybody here good at drawing maps? We may need a map of the area for some parts of the RPG.

I was figuring when I came up with the idea for this RPG that it would start near a major river in the USA, and then could grow to be anywhere else with small groups of the three types interacting with each other. I guess in a way my idea was for a semi-open ended RPG...

HItler's always fascinated me. He thought for a long time he was setting the stage for some great leader to take the reigns, and it wasn't until later he himself would take on that position. So, in that sense, he and "Warpath" are different, because Warpath's philosophy has as much to do with himself as the rest of the human race.

They're the same, though, in that they both think they have the perspective to decide what's best for humanity as a whole. That's what I'm going for with Warpath - a guy who thinks he's a modern Ghengis Khan, a conqueror without moral qualms because he frames his world like it's a history book.

Of course, this is the last time I'll be talking about him as if he's wrong . Easier to stay in his head that way.

Name: Josette Blanchard

Age: 24

Type: Raider

Description: Josette stands at about 5'8 and 120 pounds. She has pale skin and dark red eyes. She has long black hair that she ties into a spiked bun. She is usually found wearing a ripped-up cloak with blood on it. Her usual outfit, though, is a flexible fighting outfit of a tank top and hot pants with a belt of weapons.

Personality: Josette is strong-willed and fights for her cause. She never gives up until she gets what she wants. She is quite coercive and can easily manipulate people if she wanted to use them. She has a little bit of a trust issue and never allows people to touch her.

History: Josette grew up a happy childhood until the day she turned 20. Her parents had given her the worst gift of her life. They sold her to a local gang to be put through hell until death or when they simply were done with her. She was put through torture and abuse, she was even raped at certain times. Josette decided one day she would get revenge. She conjured up all her strength and killed every gang member, enjoying her well needed vengeance. She wasn't done with bloodshed yet. She planned to kill everyone who betrayed her in the past even her parents. When her bloodshed ended, she had nothing, everything she knew was gone. So she decided to do what she could to survive and became a raider.

Strenghs: Omni-linguism (if thats alright), A belt of weapons, Tactical Expert and Coercive

Weaknesses: Omni-linguism is only useful when needed, Ammo needed and blades dull, Tactics need to be thought out, Coerciveness doesnt always work

Age: He doesn't remember
Type: Drifter/Raider (if I can be that...if not, then just a lone Raider)
Description:

Personality: (as always, I prefer to show this in my writing. If I have to, I will add this.)
History: He doesn't remember who he was before the end of the world. He only remembers waking up to a dog licking his face. Soon after he woke up, he was attacked by people trying to steal what little he had gathered for himself and his new pet. The dog proved to be a deadly force on it's own. Somehow, he emerged alive from the attack and all the attackers somehow ended up dead. After that he began attacking people himself with the help of his faithful companion and taking what he found to be useful.
Strengths: Many weapons, mostly knives and various blades. Deadly dog companion.
Weaknesses: Slow (as in, not the brightest light in the house). Few rockets.

Age: late twenties
Type: settler
Personality: cool and level headed
Appearence: average height and build with short dark hair and dark eyes, he wears a simple brown tunic

History: once a prisoner of the raiders who used him for primitive gladiatorial contests he escaped and killed his captors to join the group of settlers to try and have a normal life. His past before his capture is largely unknown but it is rumoured that he is one of the very few scottish survivors. in the settlement he is a well connected and respected member of the community

Strenghs: well connected, good fighter
Weaknesses: mentally scarred, won't fight unless he has to.

Name: Linda Sanders

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Type: Settler

Description: See attachment.

Persionality: With her brave knowledge of the consequences, she takes on any risks, big or small, to achieve her goals.

History: Linda was born in a normal family. She loved her parents and treasured them as they took care of her, that is, until her that very they that her father was tortured and murdured, brutally. And her mother was raped continuously and then murdured when she was 12. She was scared to death, constantly running, avoiding contact from other boys, except for one. He helped her hide from the gang, but when the gang that killed her parents discovered that she from the same family that they killed, they decided to do the same to her as well as to kill the boy she made contact with. From that point on, they never saw each other again but the boy said something to her that she'll remember throughout her life.

"Be strong, be brave. Don't let fear get hold of you."

When she went in hiding by herself, she discovered other girls, sparring with each other using different fighting styles. When Linda was found by the same gang that was chasing her, the same girls saved her from the gang and offered her self-defense training. She was first scared to train and didn't want to fight but in time, she gained one thing that she realized that she needed to stand for herself and other, courage. She then trained with the same girls, learning everything that she needed to defend herself, from streeting fighting to karate. At the age of 15, the same group was ambushed and killed by the gang that discovered that she made contact with. Her teachers told her one thing before they were killed.

"If they keep chasing you, show them that you have the courage to face them."

Linda decided to take on the whole entire gang that killed her family and the girls that took care of her. She managed to put the beat down on the gang leader and the members single handed. After getting her long awaited revenge, she had no where left to live, but she discovered a camp near the river and settled there. She did jobs for the people in the settlement and got the money she needed to make a living. Now, she's the camp's local hero.

At the age of 18, Linda now does every job she can find while finding the very same boy that managed to keep her out of harms way to return him the favor, Benjamin Hamilton.

Strengths: Master in every fighting style known to man. She is also a free-runner.

Weakness: Must get in close and very well known to raiders.

Name: Hasu Amor
Age: 17
Type: Settler

Description: Petite figure but tall, blue eyed, brown haired girl. She wears a black Shinobi shozoku, or better known as Ninja wear, It has been well worn and is poorly repaired in places. She has her hood off at most times other than when she goes into combat or traveling.

Personality: Hasu can be sweet and innocent, but is very manipulative, she hides her feeling and has no fear in striking someone down, she has a great care for nature and knows how to survive.

History: In 2012 Hasu was only 4, her family had died and she went in search of someone to help and care for her, she found an old man who was once a great lord, he taught her everything he knew, she became a master of Bujinkan Budo, balance, throwing, and running.
The old man who became a father to her grew weak and died, as she hadnt been shown mercy or kindness but to nature she became a raider and would attack others, pretending to be a lost/injured girl, to make her life simple, specially in the cold days.
She watched a drifter from a distance for a whole day, he sensed her presence and asked her not to fight and offered her food, they grew very attached and traveled together for a while until one night he vanished never to be seen again.
One day she made a fatal move, one wrong foot placement when in battle, she thought she was left for dead, but a kind settler found her and took her back to their home. After this she stayed with them to help and protect, to repay her life they saved. She refuses to tell them about her life, they will probably reject her if they find out she was a raider.
She continues hoping that the drifter she had fallen for would maybe come back to her one day.

Strenghs: Ninja, medicine, Can form quick bonds with other creatures, manipulation.

Weaknesses: stress of hiding emotion, needs to be quite close to fight, can run out of shuriken, waiting for love.

Hasu-approved, if you have never done an RPG before i would reccomend Nightmarchers, it has a good GM and an open format which helps beginners. For the most part this one seems to have turned into a lot of fights.
