Now that I think about it, I haven't even seen Zelda in any of the trailers yet. Wonder where our favorite princess has been lurking about?

My thanks to Xey Oiz for the awesome new set.

Youtube vids aren't very good for gauging picture quality..

Hopefully you can play with the Classic Controller Pro. If not, then it's till a buy for me nonetheless.

I liked playing Twilight Princess on the Wii, but it felt a lot better playing it on my NGC.

EDIT: Yeah, youtube pretty much kills the quality. They say they provide 1080p but it's not even close.

    I wish I could play this. Too bad they discontinued the GameCube in 07 meaning no games come out for it now. The Wii is a nice party console. But I don't have large groups of people come over so buying it just to play Zelda is out of the question. At times like these I wish Zelda wasn't strictly Nintendo and could be released on multiple consoles ;__;

:P And, same here. This will be the first Zelda I haven't played.

At last year's E3 they said they were going for an "Impressionist" style of graphics.

It's not my favorite, but I actually prefer it over the toon Link style of graphics. Still I hope the next Zelda on the Project Cafe shows off that systems graphics and looks even better than Twilight Princess.

There's nothing wrong with WW's graphics. Outside of the Cell shadeing there's quite a bit of attention to detail. Not to mention he had plenty of facial expressions which far outnumber what he had in TP where he looks strait faced 90% of the time. There's also the fact that the graphics fit since the game was on the light hearted sided.

I don't think there's anything wrong with them. I just prefer the TP style graphics.

I actually think that Skyward Sword is a unique balance. I wish they'd release it already and allow my Wii to stop collecting dust. lol

I preorded the game already, so I'll definitely be playing it. I quite like the graphics, they're unique and the game looks fun.

Of course, I'd also be happy if it was NES style graphics, so I'm not too picky on graphics. As long as the game's fun, I'm cool.

    I'm seriously excited for this.

The main thing that drove me about Twilight Princess was the darkness of its story, and the fact that it seemed like the most deep story in the Zelda series. When I first saw Skyward Sword, I was extremely skeptical, in that I thought it wouldn't have as deep or as captivating of a story.

After seeing the Comic-Con gameplay, and past gameplay videos, I'm pretty convinced that the story is going to be fantastic. They've added a lot of gameplay changes, which looks like they're going to feel very fresh.

Skyward Sword Review: Official Nintendo Magazine Gives it Their Highest-Ever Rating, Calls it the "Best Zelda Game Ever Made"
We've been tapping our feet and twiddling our thumbs impatiently while we waited for Official Nintendo Magazine's review score for Skyward Sword, and while the official review isn't showing up except on newstands, they've gone ahead and teased the game's score: 98/100. This is the same score they gave Ocarina of Time 3D, but it's still the highest score they've ever given any game ever.

What's more, they're calling it the "best Zelda game ever... It's not something we say lightly, but the Zelda series really has never been this good." Sounds like my hunches about the game being the greatest in the series were pretty solid! Supposedly the magazine is out now, so somebody scramble to pick one up so we can share all the reasons why!

They've also published the reviewer's comments on the game's length, about 35 hours to complete just the main quest:

There are about 35 hours to be spent on Skyward Sword's main quest along (sic), and at least double that if you plan on dipping into the game's plentiful side-quests, collecting all of the insects, upgrading all of the items, discovering the locations of the Goddess Cubes and exploring the world.

So we're looking at 35-40 hours for just a straight playthrough, and anywhere from 65-70 and up if you want to find everything the game has to offer! Writing up the walkthrough's sure going to take awhile. This is really exciting to hear, and while my hype level was already positively through the roof I can feel my heart racing as I type up this article. Will the game live up to the hype? Or is this reviewer just way too excited to be playing more Zelda? We'll find out... in just one more month.

    GamePro Germany review, spoilers:

    - Skyward Sword taking place before Ocarina of Time
    - Link wakes up after hearing a strange voice say,"The time has come for you, the chosen one. Awaken!"
    - the receiving of the Skyward Sword is mimicked exactly through the player's movements
    - Skyloft and the Earth Realm are separated through a holy seal that you and your loftwing can't break
    - the goddess creates a portal to link the two worlds
    - the first place you travel to below the clouds is the Seal Grove
    - Link can carry a back-up shield incase one breaks
    - Link also keeps an item stash in Skyloft
    - The blacksmith will repair your shield for 10 rupees

    - the beetle can be upgraded with a grappling arm that allows you to use the "Thorn plant" (bomb)
    - you can drop thorn plant bombs onto enemies or into cups to activate mechanisms
    - Earth Realm is divided into three main parts- these are not connected areas, but separate parts of the map
    - visit Bamboo Island to break the record in bamboo slashing
    - deliver hot soup to a sword master in a race against the clock

-travel across the whole world looking for "Jewels of Compassion" (crystallized human gratitude) to help a demon with his transformation into a human
    - after about 15 hours, all three areas should be cleared
    - That's when the plot takes a serious twist that isn't revealed
    - second half of the game has you looking for three "Divine Flames" to forge your sword
    - explore a second, previously unreachable area in each of the three main areas, thanks to the harp
    - this also gives you access to a test in each of the areas
    - sneak through a location like in Phantom Hourglass
    - collect tears in the soul jar
    - complete the test to grab a scale of the water dragon, which gives you access to the new part of the area
    - this allows you to visit Lake Floria in the Faron Woods
    - these tests mean retracting steps through several dungeons
    - the divine water dragon Faron will give you access to the 4th temple if you give him a bottle of holy water first
    - this involves another trip to the Skyview Temple, where different puzzles and new enemies are waiting for you
    - dialog options don't seem to really change what happens in the story
    - spot pedestrians in Skyloft or the creatures of the Earth Realm (like the wood dwellers known as the Kikwi) that have information relevant to the plot by the thought bubbles over their heads
    - the Tower of Light at Skyloft lets you view the whole town
    - the reviewer finished up in about 40 hours

    Graphics: 8/10
    + quirky, fitting style
    + impressive cutscenes
    - flickering edges
    - textures with few details

    Sound: 9/10
+ offers everything from melancholic melodies to powerful sounds
    + familiar Zelda jingles
    - samples instead of voice acting

    Pros & Cons:
    + epic story
+ a lot of successful changes
    + user-friendly menus
    + brilliant controls
    + typical Zelda flair
    + huge areas
    - no overworld map
    - outdated techs

    Summary:
Unique Zelda-Magic! Link's skybound adventure is a more than dignified good-bye present for the Nintendo Wii

OMG. They have completely destroyed Zelda. They have gotten rid of so many good aspects about it and made it a lot more of a kids game. Its to 'colourful', in the sense that there should be more realistic colours in there. It uses such bright colours that look immature and ruin the atmosphere. I'm not happy with this game.

Only fair to let you know you just kicked me into fanboy-defense mode. Lets go.

It's too colorful? Have you never played any Zelda besides Twilight Princess? -every- Zelda game has been overly saturated with colors, not so much as this one excluding the "toon" games (WW, PH etc). Even Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were pretty colorful. I'd also like to point out that Pretty much every Zelda game has a different art style unique to it and the story it tells. The only exception being the ones in it's sub series (OoT/MM, WW/PH/ST etc.) Skyward Sword's art style is what makes it stand out from the rest of this generation's games. With Cel-shading becoming more popular and the "realistic"-Gears/CoD/TP"" style being as popular as it already is, ask yourself if we really need another one? Zelda games are not supposed to be realistic. They're supposed to be fantasy...magical...all the words you wouldn't need in a realistic looking game.

Next I'd like to point out that Zelda games were never really "not-kid-games". While Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask, and OoT (somewhat) were considered more mature Zelda games, they've never really been designed for anything higher than teens really. Those were only really considered to be more mature for their darker (semi-excluding OoT) storyline.

Art style/graphics doesn't ruin a game. While it does contribute to the overall feel of it, the gameplay is essentially what makes or breaks a game. I've played half-textured games that were still pretty fun. That being said, I wouldn't say it looks immature at all. I think the art style is pretty fantastical, being the first time I've ever really seen it in a game.

Finally, I'd like to say they can't "completely destroy" Zelda with one game, much less one that hasn't been released yet. So, just wait and give it a chance. THEN rage or emo or rejoice with the rest of us.

To be honest, it was a rushed idea. I looked at some of the characters, gameplay and such in a bit of a bad mood so that decision was rushed. I personally have been a bit of a fan of Zelda since a kid. Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were some of my childhood games so i was just in a bit of a "wish it was like old times' phase. I feel bad now after you have pointed out the positive aspects of it. I still am not the biggest fan of the drawing style but that is fine i guess. I also wish that the enemies were 'cooler'. The enemies in Skyward don't look even mildly scary compared to like some of the 'scarier' ones in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, etc. I just feel that the way that they did Twilight Princess was a bit better. Oh well, thanks for opening my eyes.

Got it this morning. So far it's okay. I don't like the shield damage, and stamina thingy...but that's all really. I had to stop when I got to the first temple so we could try out MvC3 (which is pretty cool). I haven't decided if I'll try to do a one-dayer, but I'll figure that out later.
