I was just wondering, in your opinions, who would be the absolute greatest hero in any anime/manga you've seen and for what reason. I'm not just talking about protagonists, but any character.
I want to wait a while before saying my opinion :P.

I am going with Goku, just based on how many times he saved the world.

Good and Evil have never been this cute
That depends on how you define hero. For me it's Ayumu Narumi. Even though he doesn't save the world, he does have a huge impact on a small group of people and finds what he seeks as he helps them find what they seek.
I'd say Little Slugger from Paranoia Agent. God I'd give a lot to have him smack me upside the head with his bat and make my problems vanish.
I know that he was technically supposed to be the 'villian' of the series, but I really believe that his cause was a noble one... Until he started killing people that is.
~Condey, The Northamerimori~
Simon from Tengen Toppa Gurrenn Lagann
Cos he as always just so noble IMO
I would have to say Alucard from Hellsing.
I would have to say Goku from DBZ. He has like all the things a real hero is suppose to have about him. He is kind strong knowledgeable about the ways of fighting and life.
Those are pretty much all the main reasons I can think of.
Gero Server Guru
Lelouch because
I have recently transformed into a defender of the mentally ill. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Captain Gordon!

Kira Yamato from Gundam SEED. I mean c'mon he saved the world from being blown up by a giant laser, and he almost died in the process!
Thunder that's from Disgaea. Not an anime.Yep, it's actaully very funny if I remember correctly. They made Disgaea into an anime, there are only 12 episodes, but it still counts as an anime.

Majin Vegeta. He fought until he knew what he had to do to beat Buu.
Zuko form The Last Airbender, Aang is the good guy but Zuko is the most interesting character and the only one who actually changes visibly during the series.
Talking about a more realistic hero; I would say "Eikichi Onizuka" (GTO)
Bernie Wiseman from Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. He fought knowing he would likely die to save people he owed nothing.
Monkey D. Luffy.
See: The entire goddamn series.
"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
I would have to say Setsuna from Angel Sanctuary. He's the very definition of a classical "hero". He even does the required trip to the underworld!
