Wannabe Scottish?

Since we're in the playful nature of bringing up one's homeland to be assessed for "wannabes", I decided to throw my own in the mix.

So, are there any wannabe Scots out there? Back home we actually call them "plastic Scots", and some people get really irratated when a non-scottish person emerges themselves in parts of our culture, only to butcher it... me personally I find no issue with it.

DO YOU:

~ Have the sudden urge to shun all bars except scottish pubs?
~ Feel the need to speak in a butchered scottish accent?
~ Think kilts are a good idea to wear 24/7?
~ Seen Braveheart and immediatly want to charge down open fields?
~ Have attempted to play "Scotland the Brave" on a set of Bagpipes?
~ Wore someone elses Tartan, thinking it was your own?
~ Ate Haggis for the sake of eating Haggis?

Where I currently live, Nova Scotia Canada, I'm actually surprised on the level of genuine Scottish/Gaelic culture in the province.... Espectially up in Cape Breton Island. I guess they don't call the place "New Scotland" for nothing.

~ Hate the Irish simply because they're Irish?

I think Groundskeeper Willie has killed off all of the Scottish sword-swinging awesomeness that the McLeods built up. Though it looks like Amy Pond may bring awesome to Scotland yet again.

The contents of haggis never really struck me as gross. Growing up with it I guess it's simply just another dish for me.

Haggis isn't such a challenge. I've had Gut soup, ate it in the same smelly kitchen it was cooked, near a basin full of fresh guts which were saved for the weiners, and rather liked it for a first try.

I`m not surprised by Nova Scotia being seen that way. Most people assume Newfoundland to the be the Canadian Irish, so I suppose the rest of the country assumes the majority of the Maritimes to have hints of Irish and Scottish cultures. Most people I`ve come across from there have said so. My parents used to live in Newfoundland and they`ve said so. I`ll have to go visit. In the meantime I`ll enjoy myself living on the other side of the country`s coast.

I myself am a member/descendant of the Maxwell clan. We have the tartan, a metal crest and a spiffy map of Scotland with all the family crests located on the area they resided in [its printed on fabric and is pretty old, so its a tad faded in spots].

I know we have one for my Irish half of the family, but all of that was given to my great aunt, while my grandmother [her sister (great grandmother was Irish, married my great grandfather who was Scottish)] was given all of our Scottish heritage trinkets, tartans, crests, etc.

Apprently, according to some crazy grumpy old rumps... no one else is allowed to be Scottish unless you're in Scotland. Heaven forbid people with Scottish heritage who live elsewhere want to know more about their culture!

I know my great grandfather left Scotland because he wanted to marry an Irish woman [great grandmother]. I dont think it helped that one was Protestant and the other was Catholic [respectively]. They moved out to the States [New York] and had my grandmother and great aunt.

lol, I think if we were to try to go over there and meet up with some of our relatives, they wouldnt be all that happy to see us xD

I think he was simply unlucky. To say all of us Scots hate tourists or people of heritage is the biggest lie in the world.

Ha my grandfather told me the exact same thing he was drunk at the time though so i can't say it's true he says alot of stuff when he's drunk like when he had a quicky with Lorraine Kelly *blinks* on second thoughts that might be true.

Man i wish i could enjoy Braveheart like everyone else but my History teacher ruined it after making us watch it and pick out all the Historical inaccuracies.

I never really got the problem with Haggis i love it. Have it every Burns night with a wee glass a wiskey.

My brother is getting married to a scottish girl next year and they are gonna have a scottish wedding so i have to use a kilt xD and im not looking forward to be using the kilt ! im defently gonna use underpants !
