So the voice recording says it all for the motivation of this post. I`m curious as to what my accent sounds like. I apologize for the poor recording too. I also don`t anticipate that all Americans pronounce roof to be "ruff".

You can also feel free to post your voice and ask the same question, or just post it for the fun of it.

I think your voice sounds really pretty, as for the accent I don't really tell there is one but if you say so. I personally pronounce roof as roof I never head of Americans pronouncing it ruff before and that is odd because I am a American.

I don't think you have an accent. ^^ But the Americans pronounce roof as roof. Not ruff ^^

I heard it on King of the Hill by Dale. I`ve heard a few others say it now and again. It could be a region thing, and even then, someone in a region may not have their stereotyped accent. People`s accents can be influenced by various other things. I have a friend from South Africa who`s been here for six years and can turn her accent completely off, yet my boyfriend`s parents, who came from Scotland and Ireland, still have traces of their accents even after being here for over thirty years.

People have a tendency of exaggerating the accents of others, though in all fairness accents change depending on the situation and mood. Alcohol and exhaustion tends to bring out the accents in all of us. A lot. People whose surrounded by a non-native accent tend to adopt certain speech habits in that accent (seen all the time wherever there's a mix of urban and rural areas).

Your example about "aboot" is pretty funny; you didn't say "ah-boot", but your "about" definitely had an accent to it.

Now, a more important question: do you say "pop" or "soda/Coke/etc."?

Well yah I guess I forgot about the deep southern accent though I have not seen that episode of King of the Hill then because, I do not remember that. I would expect them t still have a little of their accent left dispute living here for 30 years. An accent is very hard to break once you've been speaking in it long enough.

I tend to slur a bit when I`ve been drinking, so I`d rather not expose my more "natural" accent that way Although I was tired when I made that post.

I know what you mean by adopting an accent when surrounded by those whose accent differs from yours. I experienced that when my British friend visited, and when my boyfriend came back from Ireland he sounded Irish - at the end of every sentence his tone got higher.

I call it soda, but I`m exception. Most people here call it pop. I`ll call it a Coke if it`s a Coke.
