Katana, simple, elegant and quite durable. Plus it's light weight compared to a lot of the longer swords. My second choice would be Rapier, it's also simple and elegant.
Those are a couple I never really had a interest in but, they are a good choice for sure. How are they made to be so lite.

There is the Japanese equivalent to this! The Nodachi! Than the Zanbatou, if I have this correct.
But in any event, I must agree that your selection is fine indeed.
I can't really decide my favorite type of sword at the moment. I know the Katana is up there alright.
Perhaps the world was never meant to make perfect sense.
This is the "Coolest", most "Legendary" sword that make's you wanna play MMO's agian if they only had it... The Ash Bringer!!

I've long been a fan of the falcata. Not too long, not too short, not too heavy, not too light. High-force impacts due to the weighting and curvature of the blade. Efficiency is a great thing.
Personally I'd only like it more if the handle were slightly longer, allowing two-handed force behind it for better sparing-type combat. Its design for was quick cleaves to dispatch enemies.

Something I can control with two hands and has a fluid range of movement.
I didnt know what they were called until now but Id prefer Nagamakis. Also I got a thing for its longer sister, Naganatas; artist fluid movement of a staff with the deadlyness of a sword. And lastly I like Nodachis because the length of the blade gives safe distance to attack and with kendo training (and strength training) using two hands makes it more effective.

something like Gabranth's weapon from dissidia... raphael's rapier from soul calibur and estocs, just like alicia's from valkyrie profile 2, only a bit longer... and maybe a basic black and long claymore from RO :]

I doubt there is any real advandtage due to it's weight. But seriously, Chainsaw/Sword for the win.
And it's a sword becase Games Workshop say it is ^^;
