    Default Alice and Wonderland

    So my question is...

What did you guys think of the new movie Alice and Wonderland?
I personally thought it was very entertaining and funny, quirked with that bit of difference.

And who are your favorite characters in the storyline?
Mine would have to be, The Mad Hatter, and the Chesire cat. Classic, beautiful characters.

I was never happy with the Mad Hatter's character design, and the Cheshire Cat wasnt as nearly insane as I feel he should be.

I also wasnt too thrilled with all the Beetlejuice references

I did love the story and adored the March Hare and all his twitchy-ness. The White Queen and her 'Disney Princess' prancing around was pretty amusing too.

I am contemplating skipping this. I dunno, I can only take so much Johnny Depp/Tim Burton stuff, and their last classic "reimagining" left a very bad taste in my mouth on top of that. Depp looks horrifyingly phantasmagorical, and I just don't think I would want to see that in three dimensions.

Is there other stuff to make up for it, enough to warrant the 15-18 dollar ticket price? I don't know where it's playing in not-3D, and that's how much the tickets are running around here.

I don't like the character design, at all.
Will not watch it, 2 or 3D.
    Still love the Hare tho.

Looked like crap ever since the first trailer popped up. Johnny Depp/Tim Burton is lamest cliché couple ever. You can't just make a defecated remake and throw in Depp to make your feces look good, it doesn't work anymore.
How am I even supposed to be impressed by Burton when American Mcgee made the most WinRaR version of Alice ten years ago?

Not a bad adventure game, I might add.

I actually loved the movie. I normally don't go to see movies like that but I'm glad I did. My favorite in the whole movie was The Mad Hatter. That movie was an epic to me :]

It was nothing compared to the original, and as some others said the character design wasn't all that appealing. I was actually quite dissapointed, and I actually enjoyed eight legged freaks more.

I have not seen the new movie yet, though I do plan on seeing soon. I guess I can't really say a favorite character cause I've vet to see it.

Well, basically this. Depp/Burton has become a tired cliche. In the beginning, they had something to offer, but today it just feels stale. Besides, Lewis Carrol is a greater creative genius than Burton, so obviously no matter what Burton does, the book is going to remain the better work.

I never really considered "Alice in Wonderland" to be a children's story, espectially considering the quite messed up characters poor little girl Alice has to encounter. I'm sure had I read it at the young age of 5 I would have turned into a serial killer... oh wait, I did read it at the young age of 5... and I'm still somewhat recovering from what actually happened in Wonderland.

I wasn't surprised to hear that Tim Burton has taken this hallucenation of a movie and stello-taped John Depp and his Wife to the production. He actually did a pretty good job it to be honest until the third act where everything sort of fell apart and producers decided to give the Mad Hatter a goddamn sword.

Also the 3D does nothing to enhance the movie, it just strains the eyes and takes away from the colour... and it doesn't help that it's constantly reminding you of it's gimmick (look for more of films like these in the future since Avatar made the equal sum for James Cameron to build a city on the frickin' Moon).

It's a neat film that distracts you for it's duration... but I'll promptly forget about it in two days time.

I enjoyed it for what it was. I would have loved to see an American McGee`s version as I absolutely loved that game, but I`ll take what I can get. I hadn`t really had any expectations for this movie so it`s not like I had any beliefs affirmed or disregarded, which might contribute to the less than passionate response I have. Nonetheless, I`ll buy it when it comes out on DVD and if someone were to pay for my ticket, I`d see it again.

At my bolded: I have to agree. Just came back from not too long ago watching it. The Cheshire Cat was always my favorite, he didn't seem to taunt Alice enough. Har har.

This Alice In Wonderland wasn't really supposed to be a remake of the original... it was more of a sequel.

That being said, I think because of it being a sequel, it was fantastic. I haven't seen the animated version in quite some time, and from the few things I do remember of it, looking back on it and then seeing the Tim Burton adaptation, it gave a new or different light. And I also tried to fill in the little gaps between the two on my own. Like Cheshire Cat not being as insane or bothersome to Alice. My thought was "Maybe Cheshire Cat is just trying to help her this time? Maybe he doesn't want to give her so many riddles this time around, but help her remember?"

I happen to love the Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp/ Helena Bonham Carter collaborations. But I understand the family dynamics between them. Most people, including those on this site I can see, can't stand them. I see them as a new experience. Tim Burton's twists are magical to me. Eccentric and everywhere and wonderful. I love the stories he has portrayed in both animation and live action.

Sweeney Todd- I've yet to see the play. And after seeing Mr. Burton's version of it, I can't wait to finally be able to one day. To see where it came from.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory- Gene Wilder was, and remains to this day, the best Willy Wonka ever. I love him as that character. The way that Burton and Depp made him though was just... wow. I fell in love with the story all over again.

That's how I feel about Alice, too. It was the trppiest movie I've seen since Moulin Rouge. And that's one of my favourites. It was so colourful and wild and crazy and exciting.

I didn't go into the theatre to watch it thinking that it was supposed to be just like the original. I never do that. I go to the theatre to see a movie expecting to be disappointed. Especially if it's a remake or a book/stage adaptation. If you go and you're all hyped and psyched and have it in your head it's going to be just as you thought it was going to be, you'll end up being pissed off by the end of it. But when I left the theatres after seeing it, I was so not disappointed. It exceeded my expectations. I saw an old movie made by a new person with a different perspective. And it's just fascinating if you think of it that way.

Now, while I love Johnny Depp with a neverending passion, his character as the The Mad Hatter was not my favourite. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was fabulous. But, no. My absolute favourite has to be the twins. Even though they didn't seem to be as outright evil as I remember them, the fact that they were just so incredibly entertaining to watch as they squabbled over everything made up for it. =D

*sigh* Alright now. I believe I have said far too much for my own good.

    Tomorrow's a new day.
