Since people seem alarmingly bad at finding the rules, I just hijacked your thread. This is the OP of this thread, if someone is curious (I would have inserted the rules in a later post, but the copy post system doesn't allow that, and goes by post time alone):

I'm curious. How many people here have actually read the rules for AF? I'm pretty sure I read the ones for chat a long time ago. I don't believe I've ever read the forum rules though o_o;

These are the rules:

These are the rules of the miscellaneous forum. Understanding and following these rules will minimize clashes with moderators, and make miscellaneous a more enjoyable place for everyone. They can be sorted under a number of basic principles:

Follow the site-wide rules
Things that are never allowed under this principle:

• Advertisement.
• Risque innuendo.
• Profanities.
• Threads that belong in other forums, like anime, video games/table top, fan art/graphic art, or poetry/fan-fictions.
• Content inappropriate for minors.

Maintain a friendly and respectful atmosphere.
Things that are never allowed under this principle:

• Trolling (including baiting well known temperamental individuals.)
• Flaming / Harassing / Bullying.
• Back-seat moderation.
• Disrupting conversations with spam.

No farming points/posts/reputation.
Things that are never allowed under this principle:

• Creating non-sponsored post games.
• Creating posts with no meaning but to increase your post count/points/reputation.
• Double/Multiple posting.

Keep in mind that besides the things that are never allowed, depending on the situation, other things may also be forbidden or frowned upon.

Are you talking about the unwritten and highly volatile rules that the Admins can change and violate at any time without even admitting hypocrisy, at the least, or the 6 foot long license agreement you unwittingly agreed to upon registering?

Yes, I have read the rules. But, that was when I first joined, so I sorta forgot what some of the rules are(short term memory). But as far as I know, I haven't broken any in the last year and a half

Anyway, I wrote the misc rules. And writing something is a remarkable feat to do without reading what you're typing, so you can chalk me up as a rule-reader.

I was mischievous enough to add a Carte Blanche segment at the end of the rules, which basically means that anything a misc mod says, without there being a specific rule that says so beforehand, is the rules; ensuring a total lack of hypocrisy.

"Keep in mind that besides the things that are never allowed, depending on the situation, other things may also be forbidden or frowned upon" seems like a harmless enough statement, but in reality, it has enormous ramifications.

Given the large amount of forums I've used, I only read them once. Most of the stuff is pretty much the same where ever you go, but I pay close attention because so many forums have specificly different rules.

Things like:

"Threads about Repuatation are not allowed"
"Double accounts are permited"
"Don't post URLs of any kind"

I will admit, once you've been around the Internet's various forums as much and many as I have, you find some pretty "Interesting" things.

Which isn't always a bad thing. Moderators should "use discretion when need be".

As you've stated before, you're a bit more lax with surface things, and on occasion are willing to let slid a few "silly threads".

Being a "good" mod means not always bringing down the hammer at every opportunity you see, but also not letting things get out of control either.

I've read the rules three times, but I can't say I've read them anymore than that. The last time I made a check on them was about a year ago I believe, give or take a few days.

You could've simply pointed out that the measure of gravity (which separates silly insults from terrorist threats, or one word statements from obese sexual innuendos) does not exist, or is perceived by Staff members in different proportions, hence threatening that Staff may choose to vary their perception or punishment at their own whim. That and the fact that ipsos custodes might custodiet themselves, or are nihil custodiet. And even in the even that a member is respectul of the rules, but somehow manages to enrage the Staff, even if on purpose, the Staff still feel free to pursue any action for the banhammer is in their hands!

When I first joined AF, I broke so many rules, but AF was my first forum site I ever joined. I still occasionally break rules, but not on purpose. I have had a few threads closed here and there the past 2 years based on the mod's opinion usually, but I have no complaints against that what-so-ever. I remember Bean Bandit used to not like it when people would post threads about food, but ever since he left, I've seen tons of food threads.

But in-comparison from the old rules and the current rules, I like the new rules better. Much better to be honest.
