Realistic Anime?

Hey, I'm rather new to Anime in general, but one title in general caught my attention. Welcome to the N.H.K. was the first anime i actually enjoyed watching all the way through, probably due to it's realism. The huge anime hair in odd colours and crazy superpowers never really seemed attractive to me. I recently finished the entire series, (only 24 episodes unfortunately) and I'm looking for something new to watch. I'm looking for something else along the same lines; realistic drawings, plot, etc.. It doesn't have to be absolutely the same, but something in a similar genre would be AWESOME. Thanks for any help

Hey, at least you acknowledged. I just want to point out that it's weird how someone who just got into anime enjoyed NHK. I thought it was a series made for anime fans who succumbed to the deep catacombs.

That's an odd request. You just want an anime that is realistic? In what sense? Kenshin is supposed to be realistic (and it is based on Japan), but I'd say the characters (Kenshin, Shishio) pretty much have what is equivalent to supernatural powers. Compared to those, Berserk is realistic. Usually when people ask for recommendations, "realistic" is a rare/odd request. Could you be more specific?

hajime no ippo (boxing) and slam dunk (basketball) are pretty realistic anime that detailingly capture the technicalities of their respective sports. hell, you can try out initial d (mountain racing) or wangan midnight (highway racing).

Monster is realistic as far as a psychological thriller goes.

Emma: A Victorian Romance is a fairly realistic inter-class romance set in Victorian England.

Aria the Animation is realistic for what life would be like living in a replica of Venice and training to become a gondolier on a terraformed Mars.

Planetes is realistic for what outer space might be like in the not so distant future. The anime and manga are very different; both are great. I would say the manga is more realistic and a little lighter the comedy, but I've only watched 3 episodes of the anime version so far.

Koi Kaze is an extremely realistic and human look at romance. It's one of the most awkward but beautiful romance stories I've ever watched. Guy is 27. Girl is 15. And they soon find out that they're brother and sister.

Now and Then, Here and There is a pretty realistic tragedy on what a post-apocalyptic future could look like. Crazy dictator and all. The unrealistic part lies with a character that has the power to release vast amounts of water from her pendant.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal is a very realistic romance taking place before the Rurouni Kenshin series. It's heartbreaking, really.

For Realistic Animes, I think the most realistic geners are the SHOJO ones (excluding the Shojo magical girl ones like sailor moon) some examples are

-Itazura Na Kiss
-Kimi Ni Todoke
-School Days
-Clannad

I know that there are some SHONEN realistic ones too usually the ones involved with Sports like

-Hajime No Ippo (Fighting Spirit)
-Captain Tsubasa
-Slam Dunk
-The Prince of Tennis


In my opinion there are more Shojo Realistic animes than Shonen....

While I agree that Clannad isn't very realistic at all, there are plenty of ridiculously stupid women out there. And men too, of course!

Oh, I'm not denying that it's just that (I don't know if it's Clannad or Kanon) I don't see anyone being so stupid that they can't realize they have wings on.

If you're into comedy/romance you should try;

NANA (It's about two girls who share the same name, who move to Tokyo in pursuit of their dreams.)

Paradise Kiss (About a girl who is recruited by a group of students to model in their fashion show.)

Honey and Clover (About the lives and relationships of a group of art school students.)

If your a music fanatic, I suggest BECK.

But really, are you sure they need to be realistic? Because anime is rarely 100% realistic. Perhaps you rather anime where there's hardly any comedy or stupidity. I know I do, usually. I find the best anime is one that can keep you on the edge of your seat, anticipating what happens next.

Maybe that's what you really need?

Whisper of the Heart: It has been a while since I watched it but I think I remember it being realistic, apart from some of the things in the stories she wrote.

Azumanga Daioh; I suppose it could be considered realistic. People don't really act like that but there isn't anything supernatural.

Rumbling Hearts: It is a pretty sad story though.

Bokura Ga Ita has a realistic storyline. If you're into romance this is one the the cutest shows you'll ever watch =D Made me cry about 6 times o-o;

Nana is about two girls who end up becoming friends and living together in a city far from where they were born. Both their names are Nana but one's called Hatchi. Uhm, it's more of a realistic anime about a band who wants to become big and the struggles they go through. I really enjoyed it.

Ouran Host Club is one of the more realistic animes as well. It's about a girl who's poor gets into a extremly rich school because she's smart. She ends up accidently walking into a host club where she is mistaken for a guy. She breaks something and it's going to cost her a lot of money so she joins the club to repay them. It's more of a comedy / romance if anything. I really liked it. =]

Stick with me here...I'd say Fooly Cooly.

While it is incredibly stupid, it pokes fun of all the cliches of other animes, and includes a story about growing up with characters that you will appreciate at the end of the whole 6 episode ordeal.

It's still really stupid though. I love it xD

Realism: K-ON!, fricking' fun, so cute moments, main character is abit of a airhead but she's so cute when she smiles my eye's are shedding tears.
There is 14 episodes right now, it's coming more are it's said over internet.
