Knowing that the Japanese likes to pay homage to tradition and those-who-came-before, references/allusions/or "cameos" like this ain't really an uncommon sight.
Well, to give a few examples:
-The Black Tri-Stars in Yakitate! Japan. (Yakitate! relies on parodies for humor, so no surprise here)
-Popeye in My Son Goku.
-Characters cosplaying and/or in cosplay scenes.
-Ultraman and other Kaiju in Dr. Slump.
-Obvious NBA references in Slam DUnk.
In SGT.Frog they make a lot of refrences to gundam
Peace is a lie; there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.
-The Sith Code
Bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo is one big homage to Fist of the North Star. It's not super obvious if you haven't seen Fist of the North Star.
happens all the time. my all-time favs tho is the part in flcl where haruko dresses in the bunny girl outfit and screams "daicon 5!!!" and the part in lucky star where they race initial d style haha
there's a couple of more from flcl, there's the one Naota's dad is wearing that jacket, and he starts talking about if Naota preffered the green colour like in Lupin III, castle of dagliostro myster of Mamo
yes!!! i forgot abt that one! FLCL, GTO (manga), lucky star and crayon shin-chan are the series i can think of off the top of my head that are FULL of them
with a lot of these manga's and anime they are either published/produced/directed by a lot of the same companies so it's likely that they'll throw in a little "easter egg" to fans of their other series. In other instances it's just the producer, paying thier respects to the other anime for influencing them or just for being great
Parody anime/manga or anime based on anime/manga fans will usually do this.
Genshiken anyone?
