Agghh. Birthday Present Ideas??

Well its my 13th birthday on the 13th of October :P I already got a puppy from my mum and step dad. My real dad wants to take me on a shopping trip but the problem is - i dont know what to buy! I have a few ideas like a decent art set to help me with my drawings. Any suggestions on what i should get? I absolutly love drawing and thats what i want to spend the most money on.

I also need a new phone but i dont know what phone to get. Any suggestions?

As i said before...colouring pencils, sketching pads, sketching pencils etc...
Any ideas what specific things to buy?

forget all that stuff, once for a girl's 20th birthday i got her those giant Incredible Hulk hands and put them in a Batman bag and got her a card that says "HEY THERE BIRTHDAY BOY!"

i think i literally added years to her life span with the sheer awesomeness of it all.

why dont you get like a whole set of coloring, or whatever its called. like paper,ink,pencils,crayons,etc...

Like My Dad Would Let That Happen. When I was 4 he got me one of those electric powered jeep things...I took my baby step brother out for a ride and ended up cracking his head open. Now if i can do that with an electric car...think what i can do with the real thing!

And one thing my heart is set on is like an art set thing. Its what ive wanted for ages. It would help so much if i had decent pencils to draw with.

well, I would just get some prismacolor color pencils and some 6B pencils. I always use 6B pencils to sketch out whatever, and they are really easy to shade with, so they are good "art pencils". In case you are wondering, 6B pencils are pencils with 6B engraved on the side. Ticonderoga pencils are 2B and generally the higher the number, the darker the pencil. That's all I have to say. see ya! XD

Thaaankkss. It should really help me in my future drawing. Today i just went sketching mad and worn myself out. Now all my pictures look really dull and boring to me lol. I need to colour them but i know it will ruin them :P

i agree on getting some high end color pencils, and also get a pencil set with various lead hardnesses (like HB,2B,4B,and 6B). Prismacolor also has a line of illustrating markers that well help you get that professional anime look

My dad says im getting cheeky and every time i answer him back he knocks £20 off I asked him if there is any art stores where he lives and he said no! So what the hell am i supposed to do? I know theres an art store called Hobbycraft near to me so i might ask him if i could take half the money home. :T

My Mother is an art teacher, she draw's/paint's using a Canvas sometimes.
She would say to me "that your mind is open to new things in the world, if you draw try painting as well as for painting try drawing, becasue some people will just draw and not paint why not do both? your mind will explore with new idea's, and before you know it you'll be more talented then you knew before!"

You might want to open your option's to painting, think of all the new possiblities and imaginive things that will open up to you! So maybe ask for a Canvas, start painting. I figured if your going to be 13, then explore at bit at different things! Keep an open mind! You might never know where it will take you in the future.

I have tried painting before but never on a canvas. And im willing to try new things. I love drawing and colouring but i figured if you make a mistake when you paint...you cant go back. you have to start again. thats the main problem with painting. It annoys me about that but im still going to try it all the same.

That's why you should take your time on it. if you think about it with paint you don't need to start over it agian, try painting over it, do you think Van Goah didn't make mistakes, he did and he just contiued over it had to mix more color into it but he made it out. You just need to to like to an art/paint class or something for you to know what you can do. I'm not an artist I can't draw stick figures for crap, but I stuck with it and I learned so much about it, it's just hard for me to show it on paper.....
But do what you feel is right. K! Just keep at it and you'll be be more awesomeness in the future!

Theres this woman coming to my local library who teaches how to draw anime/manga...and she teaches loads of painting techniques. My mum keeps telling me to go to her classes but im too scared that everyone else is better than me and that ill be the crappest person there. As you can probably tell..im lacking self confidence. I dont show anyone but amy and my mum my drawings. But then i found out about this forum and i can share my drawings with people that wont put me down.

Don't let other's put you down, it's okay just know that your just staring out it's only natural for you to be scared. Come over that, who knows what else you can achive!

Lmaaoo. Not even my BEST friend has seen my drawings. I keep them locked away in my book bag and i take it everywhere. Even when im handing out work books..my bag is on my back. Im not ashamed of my drawings..i just feel its an invasion of privacy. And another off putting thing is when i walk down the art corridor there are Art GCSE projects pasted everywhere. Most of them are anime/manga. And if i take art as an option i dont want my drawing pasted over the walls just like everyone elses. I love spending all my time in the art corridor just pondering over the drawings and trying to take in every detail...I love art but we never study what im good at. Art is one of my strongest subjects and i treasure all my drawings.

I'm one of those people who make everyone else look bad. Sorry.
The only exception is that I have a friend is who amazingly complicated and God of shading, and I can't compete with that. We're practically rivals in Art 2 right now.

Anyways I recommend getting Prismacolor color pencils, as they are made to blend. Get the Prismacolor colorless blenders too, they're very useful. And get a handheld graphite metal sharpener(I use staedtler). They are to fight for, and very 100x good sharpeners. Prismacolors color pencils aren't pre-sharpened, so its good to have this particular sharpener. If you like markers and somewhat watercolor, I recommend the Prismacolor markers. I never actually used the markers before but I've seen some really good results from tutorials online.
Get a range of graphite pencils-
Highest to Lowest
9B-8B-7B-6B-5B-4B-3B-2B-B-HB-F-H
B stands for Bold, H stands for Hard, iunno what F is.
If you're getting a sketchbook, get spiral bound. Hard bounds mess up my art and tear up easily(imo). I use Carson and buy it at Barnes & Noble.
Oh, and you might be able to find Prismacolor at Office Depot. I saw it there a few times. Hope it helps.
