Heard it on other site. Windows 7 looks promising. I've been using RC1 for nearly 2 months and surprising it's quite stable so far, at my part (although it memory dump once).

As for pricing, I need to wait for OEM pricing since the retail version is quite expensive than Vista. I hope it doesn't cost more than RM800 for Ultimate version.

The main concern is the hardware vendor able to produce their own hardware drivers on Win 7 prior to its official release on the market.

Windows 7 looks great. I hear it's better than Vista (which I enjoy) and is fast like XP (Sometimes I hear it's faster!). I've wanted to try the Release Candidate for quite a while but I've no spare computer to try it on. =/

Also, 192 GB of RAM is ridiculous.

I heard and have already red this article. And I agree it is a very big step from Vista. I have been looking foreword to it for a while and hope things go better this time.

I've been using Windows 7 since Build 6801, and I like how far they've come.

This won't be an issue. Windows 7 is backwards compatible, so drivers for Vista and XP (if XDDM) work on W7, too.

Yes, but only if you don't have a SSD drive. SSDs will make W7 disable defrag for this HDD. As for the format it is wise to do it once a year because of the whole read/writes that happen with the registry. This is a limitation Windows has by using a registry to store information.

The Win 7 backward compatibility does cover for most of the hardware but a few doesn't work; two peripherals in my case.

For example, my Lexmark 605 can print using Vista driver. The software solution have a problem detecting the installed cartridges actual ink level. Since I didn't the colour cartridge, it cannot print areas that are in colour in grayscale. Yes, I've tweaked the grayscale/black & white on the image but still no avail.

Hardware vendor need to release Win 7 certified especial their legacy product if the user still want to use those hardware(s) in Win 7 environment.

I'm pretty excited to try it when I get the dough to fork over for a copy.

I've had great luck with XP, and really like it. But it's time to move on to DX10 territory, and I don't care for Vista.

Right now, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on a 2008 Santa Rosa MacBook Pro. [RC Release, 64 bit.]

    Current Config:

    320 GB 7200 RPM HDD
    4 GB DDR2 667 GHz RAM
    256 NVidia GeForce 8600 M GT
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz

    Current Setup:

    50 GB Windows 7 Partition
The rest is reserved for the mac.

    * Windows 7 runs very fast on this kind of configuration. At first, Boot Camp won't have the proper graphics driver for Windows 7, so you need to download that off the site.

[Nivida already has graphics drivers for those running Windows 7.]

After that, I just had to update my sound card driver and now Windows is running without problems. =]

I'm still getting used to the new taskbar, though.

Pretty great system, I think I'm going to like it more than Vista.

I think Windows 7 runs fast regardless of config. I've installed the RC on two computers that ran Windows XP at a decent speed and as long as you don't fill the desktop with a crapload of gadgets (or have a billion startup programs), 7 runs better than XP.

    I already do.

The only problem I've had with 7 was getting a sound card working since Dynex sucks and they only have drivers for XP (I've got it working somehow though... so it's fine).

My bro just got windows 7, and I got to tell you its awesome. The processing speed is amazing and working with it is easier than vista in my opinion. I hope I'll get it when it comes out and they lower the price.

I think from what i have used in Windows 7 it gives Windows Xp a run for its Money. Windows Vista is a joke i hate every bit of it. I can't wait to see DirectX 11 roll out with Windows 7. Windows 7 offers some thing new to the computer market like with Windows Xp mode. I think its worth the money and the time to install.

I think W7 runs on par with XP and low/mid-end hardware, and on higher-end hardware it should run faster, since it can support more RAM, Tri/Quad SLI / Crossfire, etc and also has better multithreading than XP (apparently).

I've yet to try it on so-called "high-end" hardware though, as I still have XP on my desktop, but I installed W7 RC on my laptop the moment it was released, and I don't even know why I had Vista on my laptop in the first place.

W7 is faster than Vista, a hell of a lot more stable than Vista (I've had one BSOD since getting it, compared to countless hundreds with Vista) and doesn't spaz the hard-drive out with that crappy Superfetch thing.

Also, I think Windows Aero looks better. I admit that the new taskbar looked a bit weird with the new glass effect, but once you get used to it, it's hard to imagine using Vista's Aero. Also, taskbar transparency works on fullscreen apps, which was something that bugged the hell out of me on Vista.

Also, I know the option to disable taskbar button text sounds odd, but disable it, and then drag the taskbar to the right of the screen. It looks awesome. Shame Microsoft didn't add the option to drag the start button to the bottom of the screen.

Anyway for those people using Vista, I'd say get W7 even if it is in RC still. Even the RC is better than Vista SP1 for everything. and I don't see why people would use Vista after trying W7. I'd also tell everyone to get it when it's officially released, but that's the case for people to decide as the prices are pretty steep.

Don't get your hopes up on the Windows XP mode. it's literally just an emulation and apparently doesn't support hardware acceleration. Flash can agree/disagree with me on that, but it's -literally- for emulation purposes as far as I know.

(btw - I've got a Windows 95 game running on W7. Motorhead ftw.)

    edit

Just how much RAM can W7 support anyway? I'm not even sure what version of W7 I'm getting, but I'll probably install the 64-bit version.

    I can't wait for Win 7.
I really really don't like vista.

I am too connected to you
    To slip away, fade away.
Days away I still feel you
    Touching me, changing me,

    Considerately killing me.

Newegg (News link ) has already announced the OEM pricing for the Windows 7 line up. It's look interesting and reasonable although it's a promotion price. From the looks of it, I bet sellers here will put Ultimate 32-bit edition a bit higher than its Vista counterpart but below RM700 mark. But, we have to wait for the 22nd Oct to get the real market pricing.
